Yes. I know. Different watches. But there is an inherent similarity in the style of bezel and that's what my brain latched on to.

My Steinhart knocks the spots off my Seiko... No competition... Very different beasts...

That's certainly a "chunky" watch, but I see what you mean

Random question, but I don't suppose anyone has an Seiko SNK809 they want to sell, do they?

The Seiko comment was purely said as someone who knows fuck all about watches.
I have a quartz Seiko that holds a lot of sentimental value and while one can obviously have more than one watch from the same brand, I'd rather get something new.

"Big boned" you heartless bastard.

Also interestingly, the Ocean 1 Vintage Red doesn't have a bubble over the date like a Submariner, only the Ocean 1 Premium Blue does.

Both the Steinharts that I have are (very direct about being) homages to famous Rolex models - the Military Submariner and the Steve McQueen Explorer.
The Seiko that I have is arguably more honest - it's just what it is.
That said, I have not worn the Seiko at all this year, and I wear one of the Steinharts pretty much every day.
I could buy an actual Steve McQueen Explorer, I've been close a couple of times, but I very much suspect that it would sit in it's box for most of the time, and it'd be a total disaster if I FUBAR'd it when working on the house, working on the car, coming off the bike etc etc, whereas with the Steinhart I'd be annoyed, but then I'd just buy another one, or wear it with it's scars.

That was another part of the appeal. No bubble.

Steinhart versus Precista?
Difference in quality or just design?

I have an Ocean One Vintage Military as a 'beater'. Unfair classification as the quality is absolutely excellent. I've got a Tudor Heritage Ranger on my wrist right now and the truth is that I'm struggling to see where the extra money goes. The clasp on the Tudor bracelet is beautifully engineered - but apart from that there is little to separate the two watches in terms of quality, and the movement is identical.
The Steinhart is (in my opinion) the best bang for buck watch out there in its price bracket. -

Fairly sure I'm going to go with this:

These last few days shown me the allure of a good watch, I'm almost a little concerned about that. -

Personally I prefer the Max Bill with the lurvely numerals, good choice though.

There is a LOT of love for the typeface out there

I loved wearing my Max Bill chrono on 4th 14th and 24th of the month

Got to be black face on a Max Bill Automatic for me, no numerals.
-
• #19644
If I was going black face, it would be this:

I like that there are no 'second' numerals on that ^
-
• #19646
I think the Arabic dial is a bit kitchen scales on that one...
-
• #19647
This one's ace...
-
• #19648
I am very fond indeed of the Max Bill in all it's iterations - the only thing that has always stopped me at the last second is the plastic crystal. Many prefer it on a watch for it's 'warmer' aesthetic but I'm afraid that sapphire is the only way to go for me.

This one's ace...Conflicting much?

Steinhart have produced a few watches using their own designs. None have been to my tastes unfortunately.
