  • The glass front of my rotary automatic has cracked, now it's all misted up with condensation. Can i get the glass replaced? Any ball park figures?

  • get it sorted soon so that the condensation doesnt transfer to the movement and then subsequently rust. i dont think there is a ball park figure for that sort of thing.

  • just find a reputable place then and take it in. Ok. Cheers.

  • phone a few places and tell them what watch and model. if they have a glass in then it will be cheaper than a place that has to order one in. this is the impression i got when i needed one replaced recently.

  • if you can, take the back off and put somewhere warm

  • I'm thinking of getting a Junghans Max Bill watch for my birthday, torn between these two at the moment.

Can anyone comment on the quality of them? I know they aren't high end but £400-£500 is still a pretty big chunk of cash so want something which is going to last. Any recommendations for good/friendly shops in London which stock these?

  • for 500 pounds, i'd buy a good second hand watch.

  • When I first saw the above watches a few years ago they were around £300, think you might be right Murts in sight of the new prices.

Recommendations on similar looking watches for less cash would be ace.

  • They're not bad (a bit boring) but the typeface is fucking horrible. It looks like a building society, especially with the ringed ampersand.

  • I just looked through the whole thread, might go for a Seiko military with a new strap (similar to what Superprecise got), will be able to do it for less than a oner, automatic and will worry a lot less about breaking/losing it.

  • good choice

this one with the white face is a beauty, get it. Don't listen to the SeaHipsters.

  • too much $$ really

  • Your call. I wear a £600 watch every day and have never regretted it. I worry about it less than cheap ones, but I know it won't break.

  • Not really much to think about really, it's just too expensive for me at the moment.

  • thought you said it was going to be a present? The problem with spending that much money is thinking of all the nice bike bits you could buy instead.

  • I thought it was cheaper (last time I checked the prices was a few years ago), it's cost is greater than the present value, I'll get it one day.

  • Had a boss a few years ago who used to collect Rollex's and the like.... he swore by:

....and would never ever buy a 'new' watch, there being so many available 'unused'... and you save on the depreciation.

  • wise thoughts.

  • now i want a milgauss...damn

  • sohi this clasp is gorgeous

  • hi all,

First post in this thread. I turned 30 last year and my mum wants to buy me a watch as something to remember the year yada yada.

I love some of the watches here but am not very knowledgable.

    I have seen this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110591352985&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Looks gorgeous and a safe bet - any thoughts on it from you Seamaster experts?

Ends soon, so any ideas are welcome.

As a reference she's very generously given me a budget upto £1k. I don't feel good spending so much of her money, so would like to find something I can cherish and hopefully keep for a long time that's less.

    Thanks,
    Kam
