  • Jus' talkin' loud.

  • ssssssssshhh!

  • I'm not at work now.

  • Sometimes I really doubt the effectiveness of the medium of the internet for debating, I'd much rather pass someone a joint/buy them a beer before laying into their personal preferences :)

  • in that case, where and when? :)

  • in that case, where and when? :)

    Can I come?

  • in that case, where and when? :)

Hmmmm, I'll get back to you but I have it marked down. For the next two weeks I'm at uni, working, tiling my kitchen floor, in the recording studio and redecorating my bedroom so I don't have much time spare coming up. Maybe in a strange twist of fate we'll crash into eachother on the roads due to silly bike setups ;)

  • I used to ride brakeless and it taught me to be super alert at all times and really anticipate the road ahead. Now that I have a brake I've kept that level of anticipation and so rarely touch it. Infact, apart from when I've just been lazy and tired, I've only really used it twice to avoid a pulling-out-without-looking van/bus.

  • Oh goody, can we do the headphones debate again when this one is over.

  • You start that one and I'll start a helmet one

  • But who is going to sort out the RLJ thread if you're doing helmets?

  • Tell you what, I might just save time and bump a 3 year old thread on each topic, gotta keep them at the top of the board

  • here theres no brakes
    brakes... no

    robbo?

    No brakes

  • I'll do the RLJ one, i got a ticket on friday, and i'm WELL ANGRY ABOUT IT

  • you know the saying Alex..."If you can't pay the fine...don't do the crime" ;)

seemed like in central London, it's more "if you have all the time in the world, don't do the crime".

not sure why a lots of people are anxious to try and get across a junction when the light change between amber to red.

  • i wouldn't want to see any man about Dogs!

  • you know the saying Alex..."If you can't pay the fine...don't do the crime" ;)

Or 'If you didn't see the coppers that fined you before you RLJ'd you weren't paying enough attention to do it safely' ;)

  • To be honest, it was a very quiet junction, and the lights were about to change in my favour, and i was in a rush. I did see the coppers (there were fucking loads), but i took a gamble, and lost. I would've tried to outrun them - they were on foot - but it was in the city, so i guessed that if i did take flight i'd probably get shot or nuked or something.

  • never try and outrun cops!
    Anyways.
I like riding brakeless, as long as I'm not going for a countryside ride, when I just get knackered after a while doon hills (even though oxfordshire isn't blessed with particularly tough hills).

But atm, there's a brake on my ride, and it just makes me lazy in town.

    there. My 28 Yen.

also, Asm smells. but makes interesting music.
And should therefore be discredited from all debates.

  • Got a brake on my Alpha bike, and none on my Beta, therefore I can't respond to the poll.

    I don't smell.

  • Blow you nose, it might help.

  • i dont really understand the whole breakless mentality for commuting or for any reason except possibly to do bar spins and shit like that. Though i dont judge people for it I just accept that its a preference thing

i have a front break on my bike to help protect my knees from tearing muscles as repetitive resistence can do (i have dodgy knees at times), as a safety precaution (in case my chain comes off for any reason) and because the law requires me to have one. Though i like to think of myself as a cautious rider, i also believe that not everything can be accounted for in all situations.

But if you think your a good enough rider and dont need any breaks then thats the perogative of the rider.

  • i have two lovely xt diskbrakes on my ss mtb :)

  • Was running two, now running one brake and at first I didn't see the point of riding no brakes. After riding without the rear one I take the point Scot makes about smoother riding and controlling your speed carefully throughout your ride rather than relying on brakes to scrub speed. That said I'm neither competent or confident enough to remove the front, not yet anyway. I do try to keep its use to an absolute minimum, and its almost a shame I'm returning to feewheel, gears and brakes to ride New Zealand and interrupt my developement riding fixed.

    Not a huge shame though!
