  • Refrain, we're still going! But have a good time obviously

  • of course

  • Mean't to say:

good ride on Sunday, if a little cold. Good to see you again Pete and nice to meet you Tom. Hopefully there'll be more rides soon and nes and Ronnie will be along - they both know some great routes.

  • yes, it was a good route down some roads I'd never been near before. Thanks for waiting for me when I was behind! Need to to some hill practice.

it was especially nice having a traffic-free Long Hill - closed for bridge repairs.

    Tom

  • No worries Tom, I'll see you on the next ride.

  • Any planned ride this saturday??

  • i'm away this weekend, cycling in south peaks..wasn't a ride planned to some vans shop?

  • Got too much other stuff to sort this weekend, anyone up for a longish Peak District ride next Saturday (15th) ?

DOug/Nes I shall be messaging you Sunday/Monday about returns from Grenoble. We agreed we come back Monday 9th August ?

  • yep and yep... shall i buy my return now?

  • I'm up in Manchester this coming weekend on a geared road bike and should have a pass out for a couple hours on Sunday (late morning i'd guess) to do some riding, so thinking of packing the lycra and fancy shoes/pedals and spending some time sweating.

I'm not fit for a monster distance ride, but would like to hit a steep hill or two for some highs. Can anyone suggest a good loop starting from Chorlton that'd take in some slopes other than new mills / glossop kind of direction? Or should i just stick with them towns and the A6?

    Ta. A.

  • A decentish route is out to Stockport, and cross the A6 near edgley, head along Offerton Lane towards Marple, go through Marple following signs for New Mills and then onto Strines Road, follow this to New Mills and through New Mills and Birch Vale to Hayfield.

Turn Left onto A624 towards Glossop, at top of Chunal (short but tough climb), turnn left onto Monks Lane and go to Charlesworth, left at T Junction then immediate right takes you through Broadbottom and eventually to the A57 at Mottram. Turn left and follow A57 to Manchester. About 40 miles IIRC.

  • Nice one, thanks. :)

maybeeee....hate to say it but a bit bored of the peaks this week...we could do that todmorden ride for a change?

  • Cool, fancy a change myself, I'm in work Friday night for a bit, but should get enough sleep in. Ride out there or get a train to somewhere ?

  • dunno, train is a bit lame but i hate the ride to rochdale

  • train?

  • Aye - a longer ride out in the sticks is better than 30+ miles just to get to Rochdale and back.

  • last week i rode here and back.

  • Station for the 12:08 train ?

  • yup

  • there isn't one at 12.08.
    12:00 Manchester Victoria [MCV] Rochdale [RCD] 12:19 0h 19m
