Manc to Alton Towers
For profiles, click Show --> Elevation ProfilesThe laney way, 800m of climb, 55 miles (plus some for wrong turns)

The Buxton hilly way, 1200m of climb 50 miles

IIRC, the short drop down to buxton at 39km is savage, though it don't look it on the profiles. If you're brakeless then you'd prob have to walk, skid stop the whole way down, or pick up fuck loads of speed and wipeout towards the bottom, braking with your face.

for some reason i'd say let's go with the first one...we'd have to set off earlier than usual to go on all the rides..there's a train back isn't there?
-
• #130
8 miles to Uttoxeter.
Trains at 6pm, 7pm and last at 8pm. Change at Stoke on Trent15 miles to Stoke on Trent
Frequent back to Manc, trains until 10.55pmOh BTW I'm in wales this weekend so another w/e would be good for me.

• #131
yeah it will have to be after the festival anyway

• #132
think i'm up for an alton towers trip, get my audax bike in the post soon so should be looking to put some miles on it. can't do weekend of may 9th but weekend after next would be cool, on the saturday.

• #133
Are there any bogof / half price entry kinda vouchers around that you get from sprite bottles or the sun newspaper yet this year?
What audax bike you getting snoops?
-
• #134
£30 to get in :(
Anyone else heard that there's a public footpath "ramber's rights" / "public right of way" thing that runs into the park and you can apparently just wander in? I remember it as a kinda kids urban myth, but could be true.
-
• #135
oh it's nowt special, an old dawes giro audax i picked up off ebay cheap. i just want to go put some distance on it, if it's in good running order.
sure aint pretty, it'll be my hack bike, got 14 gears. £30 seem reasonable?
-
• #136
Got a decent range of gears has it ? Mate once lent me a Dawes Giro 300 7 speed, had a 12-19 block IIRC making hills bleeding hard work.
-
• #137
if you call 14 decent range? or do you mean the GI of each gear? not a clue tbh, arrives next few days though.
-
• #138
Aye - looks to have a reasonable spread at the back, so you should be OK for a few hills. Looks a nice bike, downtube shifters too, love 'em.

• #139
purty...me and bilesy are off cycling round Anglesey on the weekend you suggest (the first weekend of may..the end of dissertation and the festival!!!) so maybe the week after that..or the week after that!!!

it is true! i have never done it but a couple of my mates used to go all the time, i think you have to climb a fence but its easy (aparantly)

did someone say vintage lycra? I'm there.
-
• #144
woohoo, dawes arrived this morning. It's in much better nick than i expected, brakes need a service but gears run smooth, wheels are true, tyres are good. One tiny ding in the top tube and i need a 10cm stem instead of the 12 on there. £30 well spent imo.
i have some look pedals now for sale if anyone needs? will swap for a 10cm black quill and some bar tape...
-
• #145
I noticed that yesterday in the craigslist/ebay thread. £30 is a fucking bargain.
-
• #146
there's a road bike for sale for 280. it's illuminous yellow and is always locked outside 8th day...pm me if you want it
-
• #147
