hmm.. I was hoping the answer would be fixed I suppose..

did 60km/h the other day on the roadie, fixed is currently 39-16 so no speed attempts on that for a while.

Managed 43.3 mph down a steep ass hill today. Was wearing a t-shirt which was flapping around a lot, I reckon i would have hit 45 easily if I was in a jersey. Some silly bitch pulled out in front of me when I was doing about 38 on the second steep bit so I couldn't give it another go. :(
My top speed on a flat sprint is about 35 mph, almost dead afterwards if I push that hard though. Normal bike not TT btw.
I managed 22mph into that headwind on the flat to the ferry, that was fecking hard work as well.

my best fixed is 28.7, which probabally isn't great, but then it was on 26" wheels, 2.2" tyres and 34x15 gearing.

that is fucking good, I run a similar ratio on my SS mountain bike, I find it hard to get upto 20mph under my own power, I just can't spin quick enough.

Clocked 56.6kph in RP this morning. Couldn't for the life of me break 60 with the mahoosive headwind.

On the flat or the hill?

You've obviously never cycled with Dov before =P

pretty sure me, marco, toby, harry, marcus, adam, nick and ev hit 35-40 mph on our way through the limehouse link tunnel today on a big downhill section, fastest ive ever been and fucking mental, i was spinning out to the MAX!

There's actually a special sign down on Hackney road with some kinda radar device that gives you a readout of your speed as you approach it, so anyone that wants what I assume to be an accurate idea of your speed, might be fun to hit the bit of road approaching that sign.

most ive hit on fixed is flat 30mph and 35mph downhill but ive done 59mph on my road bike but this was all when i was riding every day and not spending more time on my bmx than anything else

heres a question for you long distance fixed riders. in may/june im going to rural america with my bike and for those of you that don't know the roads are long and open and dont require a lot of braking. the particular area is reasonably flat so im not too worried about hills, but my question is what GI should i run if i wanna maintain near 30 without tiring myself out on a longish journey
i ride about 2-3 hours a day in at the moment on but on 61GI (and normally not all at the same time)
i have sprockets for the combo of 77 and 83
which do you suggest id like to think that 77 will be high enough but dont want to be spinning out trying to maintain 30ish

Heh yeah that was pretty mental, it was fairly hard just drafting you.Managed 43.3 mph down a steep ass hill today. Did same route again today, in my jersey (but no lycra shorts). Fucking 44.9 mph (72.6 kph), so close. If I hadn't done 75 miles in the preceding 24 hours I would have got it... -

I don't have a speedometer on my fixed bike, but my house mate has one on his geared Giant. He tucked in behind me down a short hill the other day and reported speeds of between 36 and 38 mph, I was on a gearing of 52:20 roughly 70GI. I've got two brakes though which meant I was able to spin freely knowing I could slow down a bit! I reckon I could perhaps eak out an extra 1 or 2 mph, although it was pretty scary so I'm not sure I'll be trying to break my current record in any hurry.
think about 47 mph is the record on the geared.

I think I clocked around 30-32mph going through the rotherhithe tunnel, coppithat was close behind me and tricitybendix and a couple of others saw me and him blitz off down the pavement, i'm not entirely sure though as I was really drunk when I did it, but I know it felt fast lol.

Back in 99 before they put the cameras in I used to do LL every morning at about 5.45 on the way to work....
Clocked some insane speeds through there.
Mo'bike though.

30 mph or kmph?
If you can maintain 30 mph for any distance fixed or geared you should be a professional racer. Sustaining 20 mph for any distance on your own is harder than you think.

• #299
mph. maybe 30 is a bit high i suppose, i dont really know what my speeds like as i dont have a speedo.
ok high 20's

Crane, you're not going to manage an average of high 20s. If you managed one in the low 20s, you'd be pretty good.
