what happened to her? was any action taken against the driver? I'm assuming no one saw it and nothing happened.

She broke her pelvis, leg and ankle. Thankfully she was wearing a lid so suffered no head injuries!
The mini cab drove off after hitting her (cabbie jumped the red light). When the police went to the mini cab company they said that the car had been stolen (trying to cover for their drivers) but it was reported stolen 2 days after the accident and it turns out that it was never stolen but in the garage getting repaired. This all happened at the start of may and the police havnt got any further than this so far! -

Wow. Bad times. Hope she heals up.

Eggbeaters by any chance? They have (or had, anyway) a reputation for snappable axles in the way you describe.

happened to me on some cheap old road pedals. sheered straight off and first my foot hit the floor at speed then my body flipped over. I was left with one pedal on my bike and a massive gash up my arm.

Did the bb snap? Were they square taper cranks? Glad you are ok though.
No, I think he means the pedal axle.

The snapping of pedals has happened to ke twice in the last year, both left side, one I could feel something was wrong but couldn't work out were... Stopped tightened up the cranks thinking they might be loose and snapped the pedal as I tried to ride off...
Both happened on my polo bike in the same part of my commute... Just after a pretty large hill (a24, southbound after morden college) so I figure I must stamp down too hard when trying to pedal fast...

Yeah that's what I mean, sorry.
And thanks - I'm healing up fine. Went for a chill ride a few days ago on my friend's bike...still a bit stiff tho!
@Khornight2 - sounds like exactly the same as me. We're obviously just too strong...

I managed to snap my crank on the chainring side....
Was riding weird as shit, assumed I'd twatted my pedal or something...look down and there's a huge crack and its bent to shit. Don't remember dinging anything...This is the second issue I've had with this area of the bike. Anyone know if its because I don't know how to ride properly and am applying too much pressure in the wrong places?
I snapped the axle to the pedal on the other side a few weeks ago. It snapped at the same angle as this one.
I'm starting to think I am just an idiot. -
• #192
how old is the crank? what kind of crank is it? where about did it crack? did it come with the bike? etc.
-
• #193
Old I think. Cracked about an inch from the pedal...almost as if I was applying too much pressure when I push.

For fuck fucking sake! Fucking!
Pin has been pushed about 1mm before the Park Tools chain tool gave up...WTF?
Need this sorted before Friday, so now I need to buy a new chain, because this one is a right mission, and I'll need a new chain tool...

Thought people might be interested in this story...and also, I'd be interested to learn if anyone else has had this happen...
Was riding up a steep hill, was very near the top, so was going very slow...
The axle (is that what it's referred to as?) On my left pedal just snapped clean off...
My shin clipped it and took a nice 5cm chunk of skin as I went down onto my left knee, pulled my bars round, fell into my wheel which buckled and forced my forks apart under my weight...
Currently on the hunt for new wheelset, forks and pedals...funnily enough. Hahah.
Sweet.
shouldn't laugh but am smiling picturing that - high speed crashed that damage you and your bike are one thing but to be crawling along and next thing finding yourself on the floor with a snapped pedal, gashed shin, buckled wheel and bent forks must have been quite a big wtf moment..

Hahaha, exactly! I was stunned and I just kinda dragged my bike around the round in a circle in shock for about 5mins...before hobbling home a mile and a bit.

Just set my chain tension before a ride, cant be arsed to go to the shed so i use a small adjustable to loosen my wheel. Set it how i like it, do the nut back up fairly tight, but its a small wrench, and BANG.
Half the outer spacer/bearing nut shoots off in two.
bollocks! Never had that happen.
Hubs are planet x pista, and have otherwise been great.
