  • Was it a conscious pre planned decision to ride at such a pace?
If so then I think it needs to be mentioned in advance...I'm wondering if that ride will have put off any newbies doing their first ride with the forum.

I think Loic (Vello) and Steves seperately bailed early due to their guests struggling keep pace (disclaimer: I may be wrong on this).

    • 1 But then it was a runaway ship with out a captain
  • i didn't mind the pace too much, but some waiting for others to catch up would have made it better. it felt like a game of hare and hounds. only with more hares than hounds.

  • Dude, those are BAGELS. We should know, they're from NYC.

Anyway, yes, amazing ride. I hear it was quite a bit faster than the last one and I'm happy to say that I pushed it and stayed where I wanted to be the whole way.

More riding than I've ever really done; my dogs are barkin', but in a good way.

Oh and dude, its BEIGEL, hence why the Jewish owned and jewish run 24 hour BEIGEL bake on Brick Lane (the one with the white sign) has it printed that way on their sign, I should know i'm Jewish, by birth but not by nature.

  • It was cold, and we had a tailwind. It's not surprising it was fast, but it wasn't planned.

  • I think the pace would probably have been OK if there had been a couple more stops to re-group.

    Particularly a beer stop.

  • Brought the missus along..... she punctured on Kew Bridge :(

Had a crack at catching up, but to no avail

  • Punctured on Kew Bridge, gutted!

  • Apparently, a lycra'd roadie was spotted peppering the bridge with razor sharp 531 badges.

  • Festus - You'll never please everyone. I thought the last bridges ride was slow to start and then picked up pace just after Putney bridge the end.

Its shit that people get dropped behind, but then there are so many people its inevitable.

Maybe next ride have dedicate re-group points. Such as Putney, Battersea, Waterloo etc etc.

+1 to that to, I was one of the people moaning about a lack of beer :p.

  • I liked the pace, but agree that a pub stop would be more fun - it was just too cold to stop moving my legs tho. Monopoly next innit.

  • On a ride with lots of people, fast is much slower than normal. Did anyone act as ride leader given that the ride came together somewhat accidentally because of Bike Destroyer's question? If not, it seems that this highlights that someone should keep the pace lower. Not glacial, but just slow enough to respect the dynamics of a larger group which can easily get split.

Grrrr so you think that ashkenazi jewish baked goods come from New York? Not Lithuania and Poland? fucking american self centred stupidity.

  • bang!

  • I thought the pace was good, about right - but, like Ved says, you'll never please everyone.

Nice ride over to Kew with the South mob and a good ride back with Pisti too.

  • this ride wasn't fast at all,it was a good comfortable pace.
it was a pretty cold night, so it wasn't like we were just gonna cruise along for 4 hours.
i'm not really a fan of slower rides, they just end up turning into CM, which which is for hippies who ride round in circles, and on the whole, sucks. (the Tweed Run was slow AND good, but this was more a fun day out than a proper ride)

I had a really good time, and even my freind, who's never really done any rides, got on fine with the pace.....and we ended up hanging round at city hall til about 3 teaching him to skid!

it was a great first outing for the Army Bike!

Indeed! my family roots are a third polish (jewish), a third russian (jewish), (on my mums side)
and a third Anglo-Saxon settler/Viking (on my dads side), and I went to a Jewish secondary school, so i'm pretty sure I know how beigel should be spelt ;).
You at SE drinks tomorrow Skully mate?

  • First forum ride, was grate, don't think think it was too fast... although I'm sorry for anyone that got left behind...

+1 to the beer stop, probably would have slowed some down too... but really can't complain it was my fault for being unprepared!

By the way on was on the ridiculasly upright bike with the spinny polo gearing (and spinny flower)... yes, I do realise how stupid I looked :-)

How do you compute this? You have two parents, four grandparents, eight great-grandparents, sixteen ... etc. Where is there a number divisible by three? Or have I missed something completely obvious? :)

  • Or have I missed something completely obvious? :)

    Incest

  • note to guy with girlfriend on ride both wearing orange at one stage.

    raise your saddle sir
looked like it was very low, and your legs never got truly extended
you'll end up getting knee pains if you keep it that low.

My fathers parents roots can both be traced back as anglo saxon settlers who set up in the original villages in Cornwall/Devon, so i'm counting that as one I guess as their origins don't really differ much.
Whereas my mothers's mum's parents consisted of a half polish half russian mother and I think my grandfather on her side was of polish origin, although I would have to double check as I am not certain. Unfortunately I never got to meet either grandfather as one died before my birth and the other died before I was two (so I have next to no memory of him), otherwise I would have loved to have discussed this kind of thing at length :).

  • Was a totally mint night out.

Did anyone else see Hillbilly inadvertantly scare the shit out of that lady by the Thames in Chiswick? He turned down another path and rode past her, she screamed, dropped her bag and then looked slightly confused that all was ok. I couldn't stop laughing afterwards, she must have thought we were all up to no good or something.

  • How the fuck did I miss this? Totally forgot. I was eating a curry, lamb and chickpea, and a peshwari nan.
