South London hills

  • The steeper and longer south London hills are really hiding in plumstead. Eglinton hill, plum lane, etc. Canonbie gets a lot of attention but isn't really 'unique'.

  • At least you get a brief hit off it. Those other two (especially Plum Lane) are just tedious suburban drags.

  • Boom

  • Anybody up for doing a guided tour of some of the nicer hills around here? Cycled around Forest Hill, Dulwich and Crystal Palace this evening and annoyingly couldn't find any hills better than those right on my doorstep.

  • College Road Fountain Drive reps should get you nicely into that grüne Hölle mood.

  • I'll check those out Ludwig, cycled right past there last night actually.

  • I grew up on the hills of Honor oak and Forest hill, i used to ride up and down the hills all day when i was like 10

  • shooters hill is a goodun to go down brakeless!

Ahh, the days when we all weighed nothing and hills were never a problem!

  • You can get some interesting loops going around Forest Hill- Canonbie to Honour Oak to Westwood Park, back to Canonbie, down Tyson, Devonshire to Eliot Bank (include a lap of Taymount Rise) then down Kirkdale, Wells Park to Sydenham Hill, then some College Road repeats.

  • I'd been doing a shorter version of that, mainly alternating going up and down Westwood Park, Ringmore Rise, Canonbie Road and Horniman Drive. But i'll give those ones a try too.

  • College Road to Fountain Drive. Back and forth. Forever.

  • Gave it a go this evening as for the second Thursday running the weather was looking a bit too ominous for HoP. Was thinking as I was going down it "This can't be it, i'm barely even picking up speed", however it was actually quite good for getting a few reps done before the rain hit again.

(Still not that comfortable riding around in the wet on slick tyres that are a third of the width and 4 times the pressure of what i'm use to)

  • HoP was fine. Wuss.

  • Surely it must be against some legislation to call someone a wuss for choosing to do hill reps as opposed to cycling around a park!

  • How many reps did you do?

  • Anything less than 8 isn't enough.

  • 5 before my stomach started complaining about not being fed since breakfast. Got a late start tomorrow though so will get some more done before work.

  • The Rapha climbing challenge starts tomorrow on Strava. Anyone want to come on a little south London hill-hunting expedition with me tomorrow afternoon? Nothing major, just trying to eek out 2,400ft from somewhere, then grab a coffee?

  • I'm interested, may need to be in LMNF by 3pm, what time you reckon?

  • I'm working until 4pm, so was thinking 4.30pm from Tooting.

  • Reckon I can make it, just got to change the 26mm to the 29mm tyres.

  • Knowing absolutely nothing about where the hills are in south London, I've cobbled this together. Any suggestions?

Start at bottom of kitto rd.

to the roundabout at the top
    down pepys rd
    back up pepys rd
    down jerningham rd
    back up jerningham rd
    down kitto rd
    repeat!
