Yesterday a comedian on the BBC said "Damn those polish immigrants and their strong work ethics!"
Made me smile. In Germany people are very much racist towards poles, despite or maybe even because of the years and years of cheap illegal labour that they got out of them before Poland was part of the EU. Not sure how it is now, but this double standard kindo thing is really doing my head in.

That's the thing with work related migration.
You often have large groups of underprivileged and desperate people looking for unskilled jobs.
It's no secret, that they come from the most run down estates and rural parts of their countries where there's nothing to do.
They don't exactly represent the population as a whole. Also, you will have petty criminals and mobsters on the run, alcoholics and people without any education - all those who couldn't achieve anything in their own countries. Then there's a small group of students and real enterpreneurs, tourist etc.

If the only Germans who come to the UK were lowlifes who are after any kind of manual work, because they can earn 5x their wages... You know the rest :-)

By the way, another good example are Jamaicans. There's that stereotype that they are all loud, criminal minded, violent people who sell crack, but this is because of the type who can afford to come over here (mainly Yardies).
Jamaicans who don't live in shanty towns of Kingston are completely different. Very nice and humble people. Some very well educated and well mannered.
