  • Do yourself a favour. Go to Moro.

    he's right you know.

  • lol ^^^^^^i always tend to go to the asian restaurants where asians eat, they're the best places to go to, great when i go to them with my korean mates cause they know the lingo and get to taste thing that are they're traditional foods (Gim che) and separate them from 'the ones invented for brits' meals.

though saying that most indian food take aways and cantonese foods are like that too, cant beat my friend jaymits mums indian food, its authentic and has no dyes in than a lot of others....

  • if you want oriental then roka on charlotte street is very good. not cheap!

    Full of knobbys though

The French bird that runs the floor in there(Estelle I think?) is LUSH in a kind of Vanessa Paradis type way!

In a similar vain - Hakkasan but again, full of tools

yeah i know that feeling, went to the 'Gaucho' steak restaurant near bank for an argentine steak the other week, and although the meal was excellent, it was full of suits talking about stocks and shares and looking down at each other, but the service was +1

  • Yeah, birds with Louis Vuitton handbags and Jimmy Choos and geezerz with silly haircuts in Prada suits - get to fuck!

  • they had a shock when i came in fixed and track stood on there tables drinking pinot noir ;)

  • Dinings (Edgware Road) is an amazing Japanese place from the chef at nobu at a fraction of the price... still not cheap mind

  • ...Arbutus in Soho...

    +1

An unusually relaxed atmosphere for food of that stature...

  • Song Que on Kingsland Rd is my fave for Vietnamese. Best spring rolls and cold summer rolls ever.

HK Diner on Wardour St is where i go for my comfort food. Wonton noodles there and Fujian fried rice = the dog's bollocks.

Haven't had any good sushi in London that didn't cost an arm and a leg, but for a slightly different Japanese style, I love Abeno Too near Leicester Sq for the okonomiyaki.

And I know it's not classy by any stretch of the imagination, but the pulled pork from Bodeans is AWESOME.

  • I'm taking a young lady out to dinner on Friday. Where shall we go? There seem to be about a million restaurants in London, and no obvious way of choosing between them. My only specifications are that it must be reasonably priced, and very charming. Oh, and serve large portions.

Do you have a failsafe place where you know the service will always be good, the atmosphere convivial, and the food plentiful? Or shall we just go to that kebab place next to the Foundry, like we usually do?

hopes this won't go the way of my last "hey, I've got a date..." thread

    holds breath

  • Where abouts in London are we talking?

  • Is this after taking her to the local Mosque?

  • Where abouts in London are we talking?

Anywhere central, or north-east-ish. We're pretty mobile.

Is this after taking her to the local Mosque?

    Boring...

  • The Turkish place on Arcola street if you eat meat

  • Belgos! cvnt grdn...great Belgian beer and ofcourse "moules-frites"
if not sabor on essex rd for latin amrican cuisine licks lips

  • I'm going to recommend Konstam on Acton Street in King's Cross, despite the fact I've never been there. I'm going to do this because I know one of the chefs there and he is wicked good! In fact, I don't know why I haven't been there myself yet.

  • If you like indian I recommend this http://www.tayyabs.co.uk/
really really good and huge portions for little money. but it will
    be crowded on a friday...

  • Gem on Upper St, or... my favourite, Bin Tang in Kentish town. you will have to book ahead, it is BYO, make sure you request a table upstairs because the downstairs is shabby.

  • I'm going to recommend Sakura in Hanover street (as usual) but you may have to book on a Friday evening.

  • RASA N16. 55 Stoke Newington Church Street, N16. 020 7249 0344. (NB not to be confused with RASA Travancore at no. 56.)

Preferable to all other RASA restaurants.

    Very highly recommended.

  • indian vegetarian place on stroud green road

  • A bit too late but Pho is a great choice;

    http://www.phocafe.co.uk/?action=app.siteframe

go to the one on St John Street just off Clerkenwell Road (very close to the Foundry), it's small, it's not pretentious and charming, seriously try out the pho as it's heaven, and it's reasonably price too (let says a bit cheaper than wagamama), I also recommended the rolls or the vietnamese pancake for starter too.

as for dessert, order some weasel coffee (weasel digested and vomited them), they're the most delicious coffee I ever had in my life!

it cost about £25-30 including drinks, always feel perfectly satisfied when we leave.

Hah - great minds. I tried to book Tayyabs, but they were already full!

Ooh! That sounds weirdly tantalizing. As long as weasel-vomit coffee is sugar-free...

    Thanks everyone!

  • Stefs on Berners St (just north of Oxford St near the Plaza) is a superb Italian with great service, convivial atmostphere and delicious cooking.
