    East London??

  • Thai square and Isarn in angel are both pretty good, not really east but not that far away.

  • Rosas, Hanbury St.

They do a crackin poached salmon dish.

+1... rosa's is brilliant. don't get seated downstairs in the summertime though. its an oven down there.

  • Another +1 for both yumyum and rosa's.

  • Help!
I have been tasked with finding somewhere to eat for a birthday lunch soon. I'm drawing blanks on the ones we usually frequent (you either can't book in advance, or our group of 15ish people is too big, or it's a bit expensive).

    Can anyone suggest anything?

Last time we went to Wahaca and everyone loved it, so I'm looking for something along the same lines

    1. Good food and the wine (we have a few foodies in the group) so pretty open to any food type
    2. Relaxed and something a bit different - suited the oldies and the young couple with a wee one
    3. Prices were good - think it worked out at around £20-25 per person
    4. Some veggie stuff and ethical food sourcing etc - a few very ethically minded peeps in the group
    5. Central-ish London - we have people coming from way outta town

A lovely long list I know so I'm thinking compromise is going to be key here ... any suggestions would be much appreciated. Ta!

  • Has anyone been to Dans le Noir? Good or bad date idea?

I have a feeling that people have left you a little in the dark on this one.

  • Anybody interested in pop up restaurants?

Here's a few happening soon which is a part of a festival I work for

    http://createlondon.org/restaurantsinresidence/

It takes place in a disused office block in Canary Wharf and has a 80's office theme, the following restaurants are involved:

THE CLOVE CLUB PRESENTS THE YOUNG TURKS
A LITTLE OF WHAT YOU FANCY
    SHACKLEWELL NIGHTS
    BISTROTHEQUE

Tickets on sale now through the website.

  • What's hot and what's not.

Nothing too posh as we've already got a thread for that.

  • Excellent thread idea. I'll go first - Mother Mash in Soho - opposite Cha Cha Moon. Good prices and a decent range of sausage products available.

  • Santa Maria Pizza - Ealing. We all know why...

  • Isn't there already about 7 Restaurant/Foody type threads??!

    I feel a merge....

ha, i second this, good home cooked cheap food

  • The Andover Arms Hammersmith. Decent Sunday roasts at decent prices.

But the restaurant thread is for poncy ones as opposed to decent nip in and out type stuff.

  • Swedish resteraunt FIKA on brick lane, had meat balls and mash yesterday lunch, took ages and was crap for £9.50, avoid. In fact I have never had a good meal on brick lane other than the bagel shops.

  • The star on bethnal green road, do not go there for sunday lunch, rubbish and poor value for £10.

  • Makan onPortobello, excellent calue for money Malay cafe, Satay House Sale Place also do nice Malaysian food.

  • The absolute 100% always win local Viet place that just keeps giving... Green Papaya on Mare Street. Run by the loveliest folks in Hackernee and the food gets better. (apparently the main dudes Mum makes all the recipes first and the chefs keep the love going from there).

Good affordable relaxed place. My personal recommendations as follows:

Banana flower salad. Slow cooked lamb cubes with galangal, Pork and Vietnamese Olives Hot Pot, and anything off the specials menu.

    NOM!

  • 19 Numara Bos Cirrik I

    34 Stoke Newington Road, N16 7XJ

    Tasty, plentiful, and cheap.

    9/10

  • the nice lady that sells char siu pork buns on newport court in chinatowns famous chinatown. cheaper than a kebab and less chance of salmonella.

  • Makan on Portobello Road, excellent calue for money Malay cafe, Satay House, Sale Place (off Sussex Gardens) also nice Malaysian food.

Makan is always good, not so sure I agree with Satay house. C & R cafe in Rupert court, Chinatown is also reliable. Good value too.

  • I'm working just off Whitecross St now, fuck me they've got some nice stalls down there...like Around The World in 80 Days....you name it

    LISH!
