Dixie fried chicken is always something to fall back on. Usually with a heart attack.

I'm afraid I don't know many restaurants in Surbiton. My favourite restaurant is RASA N16 in Stoke Newington (not to be confused with RASA Travancore across the street). I'm really out of touch with restaurants, though, as I've done mostly cooking at home. I've been meaning to put a thread up about going to 222 in West Kensington sometime, but just haven't got round to it. March or April, maybe.

^^my favourite too, love Rasa. The one on Charlotte Street's pretty good too (not vegetarian).

Went to Melati last night, little Malaysian place on Great Windmill St, LISH!

Don't rate that at all P.
Bali Bali on Shaftesbury Ave and Satay House, Sale Place are my favourite restaurants in London for Malay/Indonesian food.
I've tried most Malay and Indonesian places in London over the last 6 years but these two stand out for me, on Portobello Rd there is Makan, a Malay style caff, real good value for money. -

Went to Tayyabs last night for the first time after a 2 yearish break. Best curry I'd had in ages. Also happened to select an amazing Shiraz to go with the meal (byo).
Sizzling lamb chops are all kinds of win.

Plateau in Canary Wharf. Amazing food. And on toptable at the moment it's three courses for £27, which is great value. Also they filmed some of Batman Begins in there so you can fell like Bruce Wayne.

Not in North London, but Magdalens on Tooley Street is well good with just the right amount of poshness. Very romantic upstairs, and proper exciting food.
Bermondsey Kitchen used to be a favourite of mine, but the last couple of times it somehow wasn't as good anymore. Still worth checking it out.I also like the Anchor and hope close to Waterloo, but that's a bit weird sometimes as they don't do bookings etc.
Probably on par with the Eagle in Farringdon, even though a bit more expensive.North I had some really nice steak once at the Old Dairy in Finsbury Park/Crouch Hill in the restauranty bit.
"The Noble" just up the road is also doing some very decent food, but is more like a pub.
Don't know any proper restaurants up there though. Finally, if you do want posh and romantic then the Oxo Tower restaurant provides the right surroundings. The food is good, the wine as well, the waiters take care of you etc. but the most important part is the view and the fact that your lady really will melt cuz she knows you spent a fair bit on dinner.

So... I'm taking my parents to Dim Sum next week.
I've eaten at Yauatcha and found it to be fairly good (actually, it was very good, bar one dish).
However, I heard Royal China is also pretty good.
Anyone had any experience of both and what did you think?

Don't know about either of them. But I went to Shanghai in Dalston for dimsum the other day and it was bloody good. Between 3pm and 5pm is Happy Hour, so all dim sum dishes are £1.70. According to my chinese friend all the dim sum places in london serve the same stuff, so go for whatever's easiest, cheapest.

El Parador on Eversholt St! An absolutely lovely Spanish place, great for vegetarians too, not especially expensive either.

Also good is Peal Liang in Sheldon Square.

I'm off to Hibicus soon for my birthday... yum
Went to Little Bay (I think it's a chain) in South Croydon last night, food was good basic honest fair, the the bathrooms fucking hell, they were mental, loads of paintings of women sucking off bottles and stuff like that. Bit mental, wish I'd taken photos.

Its not upmarket, and its the opposite of exclusive, but I have an affection for AROMA in Shepherds Bush.
The vibe is always good, which is to be expected from the area, and its in the same buliding as the cinema.
The chatty friendly ambience is created by the high quotient of brap diners and their amiable groups of friends. ;) ;)
