we had devils and scratch races though.
but no points races, so might be a good inclusion this year to confuse the judges
-
• #278
perfect for HH then
I can't imagine many people being happy with a 150+ km race. -
• #279
+1 for a 10km scratch, would it be ok for a mass start, for everyone, or could we do it hare and hounds for a &B cats? (not that over 10k its going to be possible to give the hare enough of an advantage but it would encourage people to get involved)
150km may be pushing it a bit but 20km should keep you interested object?!
i reckon scrap the devil, i dont like them
also, shirely points races are going to be too complicated for people racing for the first time?!
-
• #280
i don't understand points races.
and don't call me shirley. -
• #281
alright Donut!
Spring Omnium had a 20k lap scratch race from memory. looked punishing.

and don't call me shirley. You are as thick as you look then? ;p
In a points race, there are points available to the first 3 riders to cross the line on designated sprint laps, normally every other lap on a 12 lap race at HH. The rider who accumulates the most points in the race wins.

I was looking at the velodrome site and it mentions not being able to ride bikes with either brakes or non-drop bars.
Is this the case for induction sessions and more importantly for the track day on Sunday?
From http://www.hernehillvelodrome.com/faq
"However, if you ride your bike on the road normally, you will be
required to remove any brakes as they are not allowed on track. Drop
handlebars are also required as opposed to any cow-horn style bars that
some people use on road-going fixed wheel bikes."I was planning on riding my bike which has both a front brake and riser bars. Getting the brake off shouldn't be too hard but I only have the one set of bars...
Has this been a problem for anyone?
Sorry if this has already come up and I missed it

Devils are a bit dangerous with inexperienced riders, and points races are really hard on the judges - so weigh that up. If you can't guarantee more than at least 2 or 3 judges on the line every lap I wouldn't bother with a points race.
Ed's idea of a long hare and hounds sounds perfect. 20k is 42 laps and I dunno how keen people would be on that, but at least 10 or 15k. Plenty long enough to ensure that the hares get caught, but I'd stick in a prime after 6 laps or so to make it worth their while to hammer it.
By the time they get caught everything will be nice and spread out for some of the hares to merge in. Should work well.

don't get rid of the devil, i like it...

I prefer plan B.
Go for a decent ride in the morning on the road bike then head to HH on the way home so that I can have a couple of cold beers and enjoy the show. -

That FAQ page is a bit of a mess - it needs sorting out.
You can pick up an old pair of drop bars from someone on here for dirt cheep no doubt. Make sure they have bartape or grips of some sort as well as bar-end plugs.

GAH! I forgot my sis is over to visit and flies out of Gatwick at 6. Hoping to bring her along (both watching) for a bit then get her off to Brixton and come back. Will probably miss a chunk of it but I'm determined to get in as much as I can, HH2 was ACE even just as a spectator.

I know my arse will be sore on Monday - sitting upright on a Rolls saddle for the best part of an hour isn't the way its meant to be :-(((

Paul, would you like a lift Sunday? I am happy and qualified to ride the derny for keirins if needed as long as I get a go in one keirin race myself.

But most aren't 'qualified' to ride behind it. We paced with a bike last year, seemed to work fine.
[I want to ride behind a derny please, who's gonna cover the insurance for the none BC members? ]

i think one of the pics was a good friday meeting and the other was another race meeting in the 1890's
I'm looking at a flat 'round the corner at 6 but could pop down straight after that... I agree with Ed, the programme you and Rob came up with for the second track day was pretty much spot on... I'll let Mrs Slain know I'll be late for supper... Chicken cacciatore BTW...
