look at the dropouts, didn't think you could put gears on track dropouts? that bike is yummy, go for ss or an electric wheelchair with arospok, brakeless and double wrist strap ftw, those old folks always look so happy on them.

Bolt a gear hanger on the track ends, bolt dérailleur to hanger, sorted.

If my doctor told me that I couldn't ride my Jackson fixed.... I'd fit gears to it. Not to tricky to make it a 5 speed.

can't see the reason fixed should f*ck knees, and gears be ok, if riding a sensible gear it ought to be no different. Change physio, second opinion from a cycling one etc. Hmmmm....

it doesn't fuck the knees up, it can worsen the problem that all, especially with a high gearing.

Ersatz - ask waffle what the standover height is and compare that to one of you existing bikes

So sadly it's 2 cm too long for your legs before you've even got a saddle on there.

So you're about 5'10" with around 32 inches of leg.

You may have problems without a shorter seat tube.

56 cm is the ball park size you should aim for.

81 x 0.883 = saddle height = 71.5

71.5 - 56 = height of seatpost + seat = 15.5

So if your seat is 5cm high you would have 10.5cm of post showing, which is about a fist full as they say. So maths says yes.

The real deciding factor is top tube length. Maths cant really help you there though.

Waffle taking the gearing down to about 60 inches and switching to single-speed might help. Why don't you try that before you say goodbye to your beauty?
