i wouldn't do it personally, but let us know what happens.
Regarding the ornateness of lugwork, i heard that was to do with increasing the area available to dissipate the heat during the brazing process or something. i think i read about it on the hetchins site.

Yeah its bit mad. Maybe I'll just ride an uglier bike.
For some reason that (the ornate lugs dissipating heat) sounds to me like justification for what is essentially just showing off! God all that crazy extended cut out lugs stuff is a bit much if you ask me, especially when they're chromed.
