  • I like this - though you have to admit it has more than a touch of BMW to it

had a fiddle with this beast yesterday
looks really strong and its light, i think theres gunna be some more changes but its exciting for sure
i dont think it looks much like the bmw at all, just the seat cluster and like someone said its been done before bmw, its well know for strength
    2thumbs up from me

and im more than excited about the shop

  • I Met Duncan the other day, and John today, (the owners) both very nice guys, very personable and friendly, and only too happy to hand me parts from in the cabinets to fondle and admire :), really impressed with their progressive attitude to the fixed scene, and their part selection, they seem to be one of the first people to truly cater towards fixed freestylers/street riders also, which is really cool, not to mention that they were just unloading loads more goodies while I was there, too much temptation to spend money!

  • is that a ground-up frame?? i'm tempted to get something custom along these lines

  • ^^ Me likey...

Are they open then? I keep hearing different days from different people?!

I really like the look of this frame in the way of trick geometry. I'm really not a fan of the top tube sticking out the back of the seat tube. To me it's an old, and very dated, BMX method of top tube/seat tube joining. If it is for strength then I'd rather they cut it off much closer to the seat tube and round it off to follow the contour of the seat tube. Other than that, very nice!

  • They're made by a guy called Lee Cooper in Coventry who has worked for a lot of well known bike manufacturers over the years... His speciality is fillet brazing and lugwork

Best thing to do is go to the shop and talk to them...

You mention his speciality is making frames with lugs, and making frames without lugs. So he makes frames then.

Ra ra raa blah blah blah.

I am still drunk. Thought you might be too.

'Very good, Skully. Short, but pointless'

You are still drunk. I was right.

  • Yes a little sign in their window says they are now open from today 10am-7pm every day of the week. Apparently the small delay in opening was to price up stock, take deliveries and to sort the till out or something.

  • Nice, will be heading there soon then!

  • Might shoot over there now and take a schnufty

Well, yes, he does make frames. He doesn't TIG weld them (what the majority of bike frames are built using), instead prefers to focus on what he considers superior methods - fillet brazing and/or lugs.

The 'short but pointless' was a quote from Ghostbusters!

I fuckin love this frame - even if it has a touch of the MacGyver about it...

I thought only Alloy frames were tig welded. though it could be that you can tig weld steal, people just dont do it often, or both these points could be wrong as i don't know what i'm talking about.

    Steel is an alloy.

  • i don't know what i'm talking about.

    ...

  • Alloy is aluminium mixed with steel...

    Once again..

  • ok, an alloy is a mixture of 2 metals - not neccessarily steel and aluminium. But that is one example.

  • durrr..... I like metal!

Not necessarily just 2 metals, either... :p

  • isn't steel carbon and iron? to me it means heavy metal :)

  • The tags on this thread have made me wee

Just after i clicked reply, i knew someone was gonna say this! :)

Essentially, yes. Basic Steel is an alloy of Carbon and Iron, varying the percentage of carbon in the alloy changes the properties of the alloy. For example, wrought Iron will have a carbon content of over 4% which gives it that black colour, insane toughness, but ridiculously high brittleness.

I had to learn all about steel as part of my uni course, but since it was now about 4 years ago I can't remember most of it.

EDIT: Just realised tough is opposite of brittle. So wrought iron is 'strong' but brittle. Not tough but brittle.
