I think, following ^ advice, I just have wets on my cross wheels. I've used them pretty much in rain and dry and damp. Been fine.
Don't like chalk though.

Similar story on the Pirelli Cinturato "Gravel M" which is the most mud-friendly of their range, but which I also run year round and are also great in the dry

Fmb super muds or you’re not really trying

Takes a brave person to ride those at Herne Hill.

Good luck my friend

I loved the cheers! Thanks!
It was great fun, I love it when it's slippery like that. The Terreno Wets were perfect, didn't hit the deck once.

Does anyone know if the SuperX was available as a 61 in the UK?

DIY tyre inserts wrested into my tyres this afternoon

I tried these last season. They are effective; mean you can run lower pressures with lower risk of burping and without the sidewalls folding.
The main disadvantage I found was because overall volume of air in the tyre is much lower the chances of a puncture sealing and leaving you with enough air in the tyre to be useable was pretty low.
Might just go back to tubes this year.

It's like there's no real solution to fragile, supple race tires at low pressure over rough terrain ...

Don't race?
Seems to work for me..... -

no but that could be an effective starter

How do the XL vitus CX bikes stack up size wise, they've got good discounts on and all the feedback I heard/read is positive

well, there is tubular tyres but £££ and faff.

by the time you've sorted out your tubeless set up with tape, insterts, valves there's not a lot of difference , especially with the wide tub rims
That is until you have to remove the glue 😳 -
• #9770
Nah tubs done right are an order of magnitude more of a faff. And even worse when you have to repair or replace one. If you can't make tubeless work - and by that I mean, work better than tubed, but maybe not quite as good as a tub - your expectations are too high I think.

Tubs with efetto tape are far less faff, less fragile and faster. Tubeless is for fools
-
• #9772
I feel like almost all of us have the capability to stay well out of the top 10 regardless of whether we use tubes, tubeless, or tubs.
-
• #9773
Agreed, but having a heated debate over which method, tread, pressure , gearing is all part of the fun

Sure, but then you aren't going to ride them to a race, are you?
Tubeless is for fools
Nah, it's some of the benefits of tubs, but cheap, durable and repairable. Not saying it aint without its problems but it certainly has a use case in amateur CX.
The tub thread is dead for a reason.

I think it's great there are viable, competitive tyre options for everyone
But for the time being tubs from my experience definitely still hold a small advantage
Don't listen to @gofasterstipes, he's wrong.
The Terreno Wets are great, good in the mud and very capable in intermediate conditions too. I basically run those and the Dry for most of the year.
