Anyone got a tubular rim brake wheelset they are trying to shift?
-
• #8306
Yeah. 10 speed though. And bomb proof / heavy.
-
• #8307
Hmmm - need 11 speed really. You retired?
-
• #8308
They are Ultegra hubs so you could grind the freehub back a bit to get the extra 2mm needed or whatever it is. Wouldn't race on them though, training only - bit overbuilt.
Pretty much. Don't really do any road riding now at all. And now Covid has killed all MTB related activities.
Not excellent but could be worse.

I've got a set of rim brake compatible rims, built up on disc hubs going spare? Would that work or would the hub spacing not work for you?
-
• #8310
Tubs? Are the hubs 130mm? What are the rims and hubs? Sram / Shimano 11psd?
-
• #8311
135 at the back, yeah tubs
-
• #8312
I don't think the spacing will work unfortunately

Missed them! I don't think they would have stood up to my 90kg weight unfortunately.

Central CXL has just announced the cancellation of all their 20/21 season races.

Gutted

Uh oh. Obviously not criticising the organisers because it’s a terrible situation for all, but I wonder why they made the decision so early? Even if racing was unlikely, there seems to be very little downside to a “wait and see” approach.
-

Because CX races are the biggest ballache to organise plus refunds of cancelled entries actually cost the organiser money. It would be very disheartening to put in the early work for nothing.

Yes, that began to occur to me after posting. Also wondered whether a lack of venues would be an issue. I’m guessing that councils and private landowners have either no enthusiasm or capacity to provide permission for some local bike races to happen in the current climate.
Just saddened because I was hoping cx was my light at the end of the tunnel (although I don’t race central league so that light is merely dimmed rather than extinguished).

That's exactly it. Venues and landowners make it a nightmare. I've stepped aside from organising after 10 years due to having to cancel in two out of the last three years because of the near impossibility of finding a venue (in London). The hassle is worth it when a great day happens but if it doesn't then it is galling

We'll just have to have races every other weekend at herne hill...

On the advice of a crosser, (thanks @fizzy.bleach) thought I'd repost my query here, so would it be fine/work well to run Avid Shorty Ultimate brakes with standard 11 speed Shimano Ultegra STi levers? And same question were I to go down the Sram 1 x 11 (22) route. Without meaning to sound like a total novice, is either/both a good combination? I'm building a cross bike but just for a bit of off road rather than racing and have decided against discs.

Yes, either set up should be fine. They are a bit tricky to get set up at first, but once you've got the hang of it, it's an easy job. I really rate them, by far the best canti brakes I've used.
7-8 of November.
