  • Van Aert schooled them all, was as dominant yesterday as MVDP has been in the first half of the season.

  • Ah ok. Just caught up on cx magazine. Should we be concerned about his to Spain?

(I love wva and I love Namur as a course)

  • Thanks again @Dry. Superb course, good levels of mud, nice ice tunnel and lots of sections to force a decision between running and riding. Bridge was a challenge to get up, but I don't think it posed the problems seen last year.

Shows what a great course you can put together with very little elevation change over the lap.

  • +1 to what @Jon. said @Dry. Great course and I failed miserably to ride over the snow section and that up and down section at the very back of the course was a killer. Will be there for sure next year and will hopefully place much higher.

  • Thank you for coming, glad you both enjoyed it. The changes to the bridge over last year seemed to work, with a lot more people riding it in both directions. Now we just need to make sure it snows every year.

I better go and help the school spread some grass seed...

  • Should we be concerned about his to Spain?

You can never say for sure, can you.

I think he's raced quite lightly over the last month or so, partly so he can rest but also so he can do some proper training rather than racing twice every weekend then spending most of the week recovering from that and preparing for the next race weekend. It's not like he's been going like a bag of spanners, it's just that MVDP has been in imperious form for most of this season, which has made Van Aert look pedestrian in comparison.

I also have a theory, that I need to validate at some point, that the way to beat MVDP is to get ahead of him early in the race, rather than letting him dictate, then he'll make mistakes as he tries to get back on terms and his head metaphorically drops.

  • That is the way to beat him historically. Or make him put his foot through you wheel.

It's that old chestnut isn't it, super talent finds it easy, gets beaten by a talented grafter.

I can relate to MvdP on this....

  • Also, wva will probably want to peak for the worlds and then Bob off to road in peak form.

  • MvdP is just trying to ride too many races I think, and maybe overtraining a bit too, in between. Many have asked him if this is a sustainable approach to stay in contention all season, he apparently thinks so and shrugs his shoulders. He's a very stubborn guy that rather hits the wall sometimes instead of listening to (for instance his dad's) advice. Hope he'll be where he needs to be in Valkenburg in January!

  • That was a great race. Hope to see her racing on the Elite World Cup XC circuit in a few years.

  • Thank you, I had a look but couldn't find anything.

  • Great ride from Evie, at about 18 mins she's a few places back in the chase group, a few of camera cuts later and she's on Nikki Brammeier's wheel in 3rd.

  • And then the footage cuts away for some pointless directorwank slomo, and then she's in the lead...

  • Just saw I missed incredibly cross Christmas. Bugger it.

Edit - oops silly me. I looked at the twitter feed - but realised the last post was regarding Christmas 2016. So is @Incredibly_Cross happening?

  • Pidcock wins the u23 World Cup Round at Zolder. He’s won all 4 u23 WC races he’s entered this season, and is guaranteed the overall title as the best four results count.

  • Some highlights here:

Pidcock likes to make it hard for himself, plenty of mistakes and crashes yet still manages to pull out the win.

Women's race definetly worth a watch too:

If you don't crash, you're not pushing it. I think the sign of a top class cross rider is one who can absorb the mistakes and still win, and Pidcock seems able to do that. It's easy to forget that he's a first year u23, I wonder if he'll follow Van Aert and Van der Poel and step up to the elites early.

Really hope we get to see that, though I think it's quite likely he might end up concentrating on road.

  • Looking forward to getting off my arse and, I hope, racing the Madison cross at HH tomorrow. Hope to see some of you there.

  • Who are you holding hands with?
    I hope they're faster than I've been.

    Good luck.

  • Oops, I didn't realise it was happening
