CX peeps: have we decided that cable-pull discs are not worth it over a pair of good cantis? I am having issues with no stopping power on a pair of shortys which is fine for racing but not for training in the Bath area.

I've never used canti's but compared to rim brakes they are far more consistent and have better modulation
I used avid 7 disc brakes around the Leith hill and box hill trails and they were great.
Not having to worry about out of true wheels is another bonus
If your ever in the Bristol area and want to try some hydraulic brakes before you buy give me a shout -

Randomly came across this documentary of a racer in the US 2004 CX season. A young Ryan Trebon pops up a lot

I think you'll get more power out of mechanical discs than cantilevers, but everything else will probably be worse.
Shorty Ultimates, or the lower-end model? With the Ultimates you'll get more power with them in the narrow stance. You can also sacrifice some rim-to-pad clearance to get more power by shortening the straddle cable.

This is a great season review;

I'll take you up on that if I can. I got mine working well, but it could be so much better with some old timer advice :-).

Thanks for posting that! I was riding with that guy on the Fondo. Good to see some of the snaps he got, even if they include some less than flattering ones of me from the race!

May need a disc cx frameset asap. Budget of approx 500, anything i should particularly consider?
Will a surly straggler/all-city macho man disc/brother kepler be heavy and slow coming from a caadx?
I very nearly considered a ritchey swiss cross disc, but although i have always lusted after one, am not sure if they are two times better than a surly/all-city/brother?
Looking for an all year round bike for road training and cx racing.
Not set on steel, open to alu and carbon, but price and availability key.

Kinesis crosslight pro6, non? Easily available, great pedigree, bosses for sensible shit but light and racey.
Surly et al might feel a little chilled in comparison to an alu racing frameset.

Or the CX Race.

Crosslight pro 6 is sort of the default choice, and probably most likely.
Cx race is out of the question, fork is additional cost, plus buying adapters to convert my current wheels to bolt thru. Costs would mount up and i don't imagine it would be much better than the pro 6.
Not into either of the px options, though i do like the bishbashbosh, but again, bolt thru.
Is the ritchey swiss cross worth considering? Or is it overweight and overpriced?

What about the trek, the few I seen look good in the flesh

the bishbashbosh is currently on sale for frameset £500, just saying

Good shout, geometry wise it looks very similar to the dirty disco frameset I used to have but with decent clearance around the wheels

also thank god they do it in black / grey. it's like PX want people to dislike their colour schemes
heh
