The novice race is kinda the 'fun' race and you don't get a whole load of race time.
Try and get in to both a normal cat and the fun race for max lolz

Not based in London, I'm afraid, otherwise I might have tried one or two of the Summer Series races first.

Seems legit.

Although, doesn't the fun race end up with the most chewed up course :-/
*thinking about how that steep hill deteriorated throughout the afternoon.

I think the longest run last season was the second race at Hillingdon. Felt like hours but was probably actually 3 minutes from the bottom to the top. I wouldn't and don't bother practising running. More important things at lower levels are learning to dismount and remount properly.

Time for some youtubing......

How about the wooded section at Sumners Pond (Rd15)? That was a 1k run minimum! Insta-clog on the bike.

ah yeah, both of those have been blotted from my memory. At least Hog Hill offers a relatively dry reprieve at the top of the course or on some of the road circuit.
I'd say cross has more in common with mountain bike racing than road racing, so I'm sure you'll be fine @BareNecessities.

I remember cursing that I didn't bring my other bike

It has to be the politest competitive sport going.

• #3165
Yes, vets get the better course conditions. It's their duty to plough it up for the young 'uns.

Is the summer series a 7pm start for racing? it would bit of a challenge for me to get across town afterwork.. or a pre-race race...
-
• #3169
Yes, races start at 7 I'm afraid.
-
• #3170
It's tricky as you can't take a bike on a train between 4 and 7pm- think I am going to leave early and ride to Bethlem this week but will investigate hiring a Zipvan or something for future summerseries races

Tubular track wheel sets: planetx Model A wheels don't have machined brake surface anymore, is it now impossible to find tub wheels for sscx?
Could build them but I'm lazy
What would be a good rim to build a tub wheel set anyway? Thinking alu, 25mm depth, just enough to shed the mud, 25mm wide for less tire roll -

Major toms?

I'll be driving from Hackney to bethlem if anyone wants a lift for a fiver.

what time will you be setting off?
If you live west @BareNecessities , you should come along to Twickenham CC's thursday night cross training in Old Deer Park (Most likely to start end of Sept/early Oct as it did last year). Great for skills and usually involves intervals for those glorious FTP digits.
