With the number now increasing, I am going to change the meeting point at Victoria station.
The new meeting point is right at the main archway/entrance to the station, just alongside the bus depot, and by 6:30pm so it gives us 15 mins to get tickets before the train arrives. If we can get on the train ASAP it guarantees us full access to the disabled section and various other doorways.
In fact, I think I can see someone waiting already, albeit in the wrong place.
"Oi, you! Go to your right and wait under the main archway!"

okay l's and g's listen up....sam has plotted a great route but like all TNRC rides it has the odd technically difficult bits to negotiate. i'm talking narrow lanes, pot holes, grit, sharp bends which, of course, we will be tackling in the dark and, perhaps even more dangerously, at dusk. As the group is growing it seems like a good time just to remind everyone to take great care out there. Don't ride too close, point out obstacles if you can, keep your line, don't take needless risks or ride too fast. As these are basically 'club' rides we will always wait, as a rule, for anyone where there is a junction etc and a left / right decision to make. It is always essential however to have as much knowledge of the route and alternative transport arrangements i.e. where the fuck are the train stations as you possibly can. Beware of riding off the front if you do not know the route. come prepared i.e. tubes, lights etc
I will be collecting mobile numbers here but if you do not want to post it please pm me or make sure you have a couple of other riders numbers on the night. The TNRC has brought together a group of friendly, mature and hard riders and apart from the odd puncture the rides have been noticeable for camaraderie, fun and glowing satisfaction. let's ride safe folks!

Nice one Tim. Can I just add that this ride is indeed friendly, but it is at a far quicker pace than one of the many forum 'social' rides.
Glad the pic helped Jonny. As for your place, please be aware that when you drop down into Ightham and take the straight ahead left where the road bends right, you are under 6 miles from my house (as the crow flies), so please do not rub it in next Tuesday ;0)
What time did you get back to St Mary Cray?
PS Sorry about the pot holes!

That's the train only 10 mins after the one Ved caught, so taking off your stops for map checking means we did the same sort of speed. My computer's ballsed up now, but I think our average was 14.9.
Plenty of them at that time of night, which is good. If we don't get back in time for me to catch the 22:35 to Ashford I'll have to wait until 23:35.
No thank you!

sam - one minute you are six miles from home as the crow flys and the next minute you are waiting for a train for over an hour? !!!! that's one pissed crow dude
-
• #639
oh, and Ved was right - there is quite a lump out there - Exedown Hill. something well worthy of the surrey hills ride. fair warning has been served.
sam, remembered Bower Lane from your Canterbury ride. remember waiting outside that little churhc on the crossroads as people heaved their way up it.

• #640
i nearly spewed up my lungs going up that fckin hill ! Exedown is a motherfncker of a bump.
The first climb (+ my favourite) was much easier this year than at the Cantebury ride.
We averaged 14.4 according to my computay

Went up Exedown today. It was a frickin breeze.
I suppose I should say that I was in my car FTW.
There's a lovely view at the top, shame it'll be virtually dark!

I'm now out, have my brother over from Sydney and want to spend a bit more time with him (and consequently a bit less time in the saddle)

I should now admit that I'm officially worried about the ride.
Ved nearly barfed up a lung, and even Jonny admitted to the toughness of it.
Now THAT is an official SKHA holder saying it's tough.
Ooh my gawd...@Gus... have a great time with yer bro... would be great to catch him at a drinks.

haha, sam & polkinghorn, that picture is getting better & better.
to clarify, the ride is nothing like surrey hills in terms of toughness. it just has a bad mofo hill towards the end. and a long drag of a climb just after Eynesford - shoots, you will recognise this from the canterbury ride. i think it came before your first puncture ;)
-
• #647
I might provisionally jump in at 9. Will most likely meet you all at St Mary Cray station but this will be communicated at the time.
