3. Riders should have spare batteries / lighting in case of emergency. It is also wise to carry the usual puncture repair/ tubes / spare bottom bracket etc.

4. Riders should familiarise themselves with the synergistically marketed route.

5. Riders should be aware of aggravating train commuters, and be ready to ease the situation with diplomacy / compromise / violence / honest pterodactyls.

Go down the station road, turn left and descend the hill to the traffic lights. Turn left onto Orpington High St, passing the motley collection of charity shops, fast food joints and estate agents which are seemingly all that the people of Orpington require. Get lost in the Orpington one way system, re-trace steps and end up on the road to St Mary Cray. Turn left after passing under the railway viaduct, wave to assorted TNRC alumni awaiting your arrival.
