TNRC - The North Downs Folder Special : Tuesday 22 September 2009
aka TNRC 2009 Series Antepenultimate RideIt's on - a special night for Sam. And the first of the last three of the season.
Choice of trains out and let's try and split the railing crowd here to ease logistics:
The London Victoria 19:09 to St Mary Cray
Or the 19:06 from cannon street station to orpington.
The usual early meet to obtain tickets, and to hopefully grab a good spot on the train as soon as it arrives from it's inward journey will be required. somewhere between platforms 1-7 at victoria, no idea for cannon street,
Meet in sunny St Mary Cray is scheduled for 19:35.
19:06 from Cannon Street (to Orpington)
- jonny
- teddy (no foldy though)
- tika
- shootthebreeze
19:09 from Victoria (to St Mary Cray)

- Gustav
Riding Out
- jonny
- Texas
- Gav
Unemployed gimps meeting everyone at St Mary Cray- Sam
- andyp
GROUNDRULES:
1. Riders' bikes must be in good honest working order and made from Titanium.
2. Riders must have adequate lighting (normal LEDs don't really cut the mustard) to illuminate road irregularities with plenty of time for safe evasive manoeuvres, and to get home on their own if necessary. If you need glasses/contact lenses, WEAR THEM.
**3. Riders should have spare batteries / lighting in case of emergency. It is also wise to carry the usual puncture repair/ tubes / spare bottom bracket etc. **
4. Riders should familiarise themselves with the synergistically marketed route.
5. Riders should be aware of aggravating train commuters, and be ready to ease the situation with diplomacy / compromise / violence / honest pterodactyls.
6. Riders should be aware of cars behind and in front. Sponge into single file as soon as safely possible. Common advice is NOT to wave traffic through for legal reasons. Better to single up and allow the motor carriage captain decide when to pass.
7. Riders should have a charged mobile phone and a few other honest riders' numbers.
8. Riders will produce pterodactylesque favours on demand of TNRC management.
9. Riders must hurt. It's all about pain. Coughed up blood adds body to your energy drinks. Sweat that reeks of fear and self-loathing rinses the doubt from your eyes. CO2 squats in your veins, barricading itself in against the bailiffs who come with the knock. Riding is the stuff of dreams.
10. Riders should let the above message sink in overnight, and over the undulating course of the rest of their lives.
11. Riders on folders are not only permitted, but actually encouraged on this ride
12. riders should demostrate sophisticated composure whether uphill or downhill

Paging Ved / Zed - would I have seen you in a shirt and smart trousers, buying lunch in Moorgate tube station yesterday?
Not sure if I can justify this on the spotted thread, since neither of us were on a bike...

Jonny, I take it you know the way from Orpington station to St Mary Cray station?
-
• #3141
Go down the station road, turn left and descend the hill to the traffic lights. Turn left onto Orpington High St, passing the motley collection of charity shops, fast food joints and estate agents which are seemingly all that the people of Orpington require. Get lost in the Orpington one way system, re-trace steps and end up on the road to St Mary Cray. Turn left after passing under the railway viaduct, wave to assorted TNRC alumni awaiting your arrival.
How's that, Sam?
-
• #3142
Ha ha.
Top draw!

i went out with a girl for three years. she lived in orpington. sadly, i know it all too well.
having said that i might be taking the victoria train to keep mashton company.

Riders should have a charged mobile phone and a few other honest riders' numbers.
Riders will produce pterodactylesque favours on demand of TNRC management.
Riders should let the above message sink in overnight, and over the undulating course of the rest of their lives.
Riders on folders are not only permitted, but actually encouraged on this ride
riders should demonstrate sophisticated composure whether uphill or downhill

**GROUNDRULES:
Riders' bikes must be in good honest working order and made from Titanium.
Riders must have adequate lighting (normal LEDs don't really cut the mustard) to illuminate road irregularities with plenty of time for safe evasive manoeuvres, and to get home on their own if necessary. If you need glasses/contact lenses, WEAR THEM.
Riders should have spare batteries / lighting in case of emergency. It is also wise to carry the usual puncture repair/ tubes / spare bottom bracket etc.
Riders should familiarise themselves with the synergistically marketed route.
Riders should be aware of aggravating train commuters, and be ready to ease the situation with diplomacy / compromise / violence / honest pterodactyls.
Riders should be aware of cars behind and in front. Sponge into single file as soon as safely possible. Common advice is NOT to wave traffic through for legal reasons. Better to single up and allow the motor carriage captain decide when to pass.
