let's keep it like it is now folks see you there.

hope it all went well tonight. i was not back from devon in time for it and my legs wouldn't have handled it anyway.
been away from the puter for four days so just catching up. bmmf - your text makes sense now. the new route sounds promising and a ten quid cap sounds about right for TNRC.
clintsmoker - hope all was well and you heard the right turn by the motorway in the absence of sam ;)
catch you ls and gs soon

• #1959
where were the cannon street crew at?!
came down, bought my ticket....no people and no train to orpington till 19.18, went to south easts, noone there either.
JHEEZ, went to Charco's ting and crypt though, its all good. Im going to make the next one 40 mins early!

My battery died after receiving your reply. I thought you'd be on a train back from St Mary Cray, but now it's all making sense at this end too.
I <3 my new bike. The plushness that andyp mentioned (regarding titanium) made more sense after some prolonged and bumpy high speed sections. The bigger the hits from the road, the more greedily the frame seems to absorb them. I prefer it to the boingy feedback of steel and the buzz-negating characteristic of carbon*.
*sweeping generalisation, ignoring tube diameters and build quality, but the clichés exist for a reason.
, give or take, going anticlockwise. It was 40 miles on 69" fixed in 2h02 tonight, but should be far more pleasant and sociable around the 2h30 mark :) -

lovely work this evening, just dried out and looking at the sheeting rain now. merely a little shower to finish off a lovley ride.
Nice to see MikeC, Zed and James again, and a pleasure to make the acquaintance of clintsmoker and all the other names I can't place.
Lovely work on [Bates] Hill where my rear wheel just left me a number of times!
-
• #1962
Home safe and dry! Stem is trashed though! Hope your arm is ok Tika! Was a good ride even with the bat drafting me FTW! That hill is one hell of a hill when you cant control your back wheel from leaving you every other turn of the pedals.
Nice to meet the new faces and hope to see you all on another ride! -
• #1963
nice ride as always
nice to meet some new faces
nice to fall yet once more, without me falling, it would not be TNRC for me! -
• #1964
definitely great to meet paula, justin, mikec , arvy, dave4 properly this time, mike properly too. slippery slopes , an audio cable to the shoulder from some hicks which on further thought could have been so much more lethal than a sore shoulder blade, but hey.....this is TNRC and it's going to take more than that. Rain...always a pleasure.
take it away Scarlet

19:06 existed dude. i was outside the front of the station with a few others until 10 mins before train left from platform 6. shame aleksi would have been great to see you there on the ride man. hopefully soon.

WTF?? Sorry to hear that Tim. Whereabouts did that happen?
If it was down in deepest Kent then on behalf of them I apologise.
Looks a like route Scarlett. What's the climb like?
-
• #1967
@ -sam - on that long stretch of A road in the final third. an open top pick up land rover with yooves in the back. no need for the apology dude....they looked more related to purple_mj to be honest. :)

That shit's fucked up. I'm acutely aware of the risk of this sort of thing happening when doing night/dusk rides alone. Not something I plan to do often. I was racing to make the most of the daylight last night, which is quite motivating :)
The climb's one of those that isn't as bad as it looks on the map. I took a wrong turn and started heading south 'one road early', but that did give a fantastic view of one of the steepest of the Barton Hills. Was kind of hoping the road would be like that (I'm sick in the head that way), but Gravel Hill was pretty easy. I stood the whole way at a cruising cadence.
There are some shorter sharper undulations, but otherwise it's a bit of a fast and open route. Welwyn Garden City is weird, and it took me 10 minutes to find an entrance to the train station that wasn't shut... but missing a train probably meant I missed the worst of the rain in London.
The train out was only 4 carriages, but there's the option of joining at Finsbury Park. I'm also considering the option of a ride less far out, starting from Potters Bar, and taking in a lot of the North Road Hardriders time-trial course. It's around 'Little Switzerland', which is the section of Herts between Potters Bar & Hertford. That would give the option of a ride out/back for North Londoners... and purple_mj ;)

Well, that is his neck of the woods I suppose. Still, not nice.
That route does look nice and fast, fo sure.

As always good to see everyone, felt ready for sleep once I got home, particularly as Dave and Mike kept me honest for the ride from Victoria to Archway.
It was great to be joined by some more fellow Northies, Arvy, Justin and Paula - no doubt I will see you all at the Flask before too long.

Very good ride and nice to meet some new people and see some familiar faces. There really is nothing like bombing it down dark country lanes and climbing some nice hills. So good to get out of the city for a while.
Strange how easy it is to get straight back into the manic city riding again once back in Victoria. Dodging taxis, buses etc. I had a big plate of food waiting for me when I got in, after a nice hot bath. Managed to get a puncture on the way home though, but only noticed it at the top of Highate Hill. Had to stop every few minuted to pump it up. But other than that, a fantastic night!

Weird does not begin to describe it. I used to live there for a few months, straight after I graduated. Horrible nasty place.
And to make it worse it only has about 3 pubs, all of which are terrible.
Believe me, you soon learn how to get onto a London train, sharpish.
-
• #1973
Well, if we do this ride, you can be responsible for navigating our way in/out of the immediate station environs.
The surrounding countryside's very pleasant at least.

• #1974
looking forward to this bmmf. shall we make it the next one in two weeks time dude?

Ah man I got there just before 7, got my ticket and the fella said the next one was 19.18, its ok, at least I got a refund on the ticket. Will definitely make the next one
Genuis lyrics, I love it. Thanks Andyp
Mention the Lord of the Rings just once more,
And I'll more than likely kill you.
"Moorecock, Moorecock, Michael Moorecock"
you fervently moan.
Is this a wok that you sholve down my throat,
Or are you just pleased to see me?
Brian Moore's head looks uncannily like London Planetarium.
Chorus:
And all those people
Who you, romantically,
Like to still believe are alive,
Are dead!
So I'll wipe my snot
On the arm of your chair
As you put another Roger Dean poster
On the wall.
God, I could murder a Cadbury's Flake,
Then I guess you wouldn't let me into heaven.
Or maybe you would 'cause their adverts promote oral sex!
A Romani bint in a field with her paints,
Suggesting we faint at her beauty,
But she's got "Dickie Davis Eyes!"
