  • Make sure you lube that chain too....

    Done.

Z, that dinosaur/parrot squawked when the official TNRC was run (you were sunning yourself in a blouse in Cuba). Three in a row?

  • So eastsiders are meeting at Cannon Street then?

  • I would like to meet at Cannon Street as it is 2 mins from my work

  • IS EVERYONE CLEAR ON WHAT THEY NEED TO DO TOMORROW?

@bmmf - you still knackered after DD?

I've been busy reccying RPLZ rides with claus (with proper fucking hills), and building/road-testing my new fixie-wixie. 165s feel so different after all these interim years on 170s. I'm going to have to completely relearn my pedalstroke. Pity this new bike is too nice for the track - it's capable of faster acceleration than anything else I've ever owned (and possibly even ridden without owning).

My plan is to head out for a special invitation-only TNRC (where only one invitation was issued, and it had my name on it), checking out some virgin territory, and then presenting the findings to messrs smoker and -ny for approval. I will be riding my tixie fixie wixie, and if any train commuter so much as looks at it with anything less than an expression of pure unfettered sexual yearning, I will pull the emergency cord without even waiting till the train's in a station. Oh yes.

  • : THREAD HIGHJACK:there is a slim chance i may invite myself to the secret non-nodder proper roadie RPLZ ride (if all goes well with the physio tomorrow) [HIGHJACK OVER]

  • Could someone give me a quick overview of the route. You know...how many 'honest' climbs there are, etc. Will this be the one that breaks me?? Give it to me straight. I can take it.

  • Man up wools.

  • There's two honest climbs I reckon. The first is early on and is long and draggy but never really gets steep. The second is about two thirds of the way round and starts off draggy and then steepens towards the top. I was really kicking it over in a 66" gear last time, it surprised me how steep it was.

  • what is it like compared to Blackheath Hill?

  • or maybe one of the uglies in new cross like pepys or dog kennel hill?

  • You haz gearz! I no haz granny ring!

I have no chance. :( I can see myself getting off and walking up that second one.

  • @ - mikec - makes sense to drop in at cannon street . i'll get jonny or shoots to go to victoria instead. just trying to spread the love around evenly.
@bmmf - god that was a ramble. do i get it you have a new bike but we won't see you tomorrow and you have a ride planned?
@ wools and aleksi - what's the worst that could happen? we'll be waiting for you at the top and as soon as you make it we'll do a jonny special and set off straight away ;) seriously, it's a hard climb but you'll be fine and we aren't in too much of a rush tomorrow

  • ok, good stuff, I might even do it on 48 x 16 then :P

  • So eastsiders are meeting at Cannon Street then?

NO. only those i pm'd and listed as cannon street. it's important we try to spread the load across stations and trains. Wools , if you don't mind , keep right on to victoria this time. cheers mate.

  • Coolio. If I conk out 5miles before the end of the ride though I'm blaming you! :P

  • Hi Hi, Really keen to do this, (geared :( ) Really enjoyed the last one. Really want to know what station it would be best for me to leave from..?

An honest write up there Andy, but I would add that the first climb has two or three steep ramps near the beginning. Nothing too taxing though as it does indeed come early in the ride.

  • Tim - if anyone you mentioned on the last page isn't going tonight would it be OK to leave from Cannon St with y'all? Will meet at Victoria unless I hear otherwise. Cheers.

  • balls just discovered I have a snapped spoke on the rear wheel.
Wheel is still running true. Is this something I should get fixed asap?
Be at Cannon Street for 6.30ish

  • TNRC - North Downs ride : Tuesday 14th July 2009

The train to catch departs London Victoria 19:09. The usual early meet to obtain tickets, and to hopefully grab a good spot on the train as soon as it arrives from it's inward journey will be required. somewhere between platforms 1-7, these are on the far left hand side of the station as you enter.

Arrival in sunny St Mary Cray is scheduled for 19:35.

    1. Clintsmoker (train out cannon street)
    2. jonny (possible might be tired after long ride in the day. CANNON STREET)
    3. Shootthebreeze (possible, not well and loads of work. CANNON STREET)
    4. miss tiks [train out]
    5. mrs marcom (victoria)
    6. Sam (will meet everyone at St Mary Cray)
    7. mikec (Liking the sound of this one. Is there a map?)
    8. mashton (victoria) - but I am flaky, CANNON STREET).
    9. Sasmon (Victoria)
    10. dave4 (If I can get to the station in time. CANNON STREET)
    11. balmain
    12. Aleksi (CANNON STREET)
    13. wools
    14. purple_mj (meet you all at St Mary Cray station 7:30pm)
    15. Ved (cannon st)

@ ALL - thinking of sending half of us to cannon street to catch the 19:06 to orpington. then those lucky few can ride the 2 miles to st mary cray and hook up with everyone else. cannon street would be easier for me as i'm eastside. I have suggested Jonny , shoots, mashton, dave4. aleksi for cannon street because they are possibles, flakey or just new. if jonny, shoots can't make it because of tiredness, illness and mashton burns his ass on the carpet - it'll mean the train is empty and i can just roll down with dave4 and alex. Everyone pm me soon as if this is not a good idea.
the rest of you carry on down to victoria and we'll see you at st mary cray station.

  • Hey Wools - I was going to Cannon Street but Victoria is just as easy for me - let me know if you want to swap. If I don't hear from you I'll go to Cannon Street.

Tim - if anyone you mentioned on the last page isn't going tonight would it be OK to leave from Cannon St with y'all? Will meet at Victoria unless I hear otherwise. Cheers.

  • if it looks like there are too many riders out of cannon st, i will go to victoria.

  • balls just discovered I have a snapped spoke on the rear wheel.
Wheel is still running true. Is this something I should get fixed asap?
Be at Cannon Street for 6.30ish

Yes. The wheel's probably running trueish due to being 32/3x (?), but the spokes compensating for the snapped one will be getting over-stressed (and therefore likely to start snapping too).

I'd definitely avoid kerb-hopping/potholes as much as possible in the meantime.

An lbs should be able to fit a new spoke in next to no time, if they've got the right length in stock.

  • Cheers bmmf. I better take it into shop 14 or whatever its called at lunchtime then.
Are you not joining us tonight?
