@BMMF - I might ride down with you. Will think on that one.
Routewise, I'd head down to Kingston then out via Esher and Cobham. Is that the A307? It's the old A3, that much I know.
Yup. I'd go A3, kingston hill, portsmouth rd, left through Esher towards Oxshott, right on Oxshott common down towards Cobham then left to effingham. Couple of decent bumps on the way out as a warm up. It's no more than 20-25miles from WC1.
I understand the hills route is 50miles and takes in Ranmore, box, leith etc?
Would be a tricky rustle with the london bit. Props if you ride home too.

On the way back from Vatternrundan that night so unfortunately out. Its a great ride, but as a rubbish climber and having done this ride a couple of times, I'd echo andyp's thoughts on gears - 42/26 was my friend more than once. Want to try it fixed sometime... but with more time and perhaps slightly slower company.

level - honest
I'm sure this is meant to mean 'honest' as in Jonny's assessment of the occasional alpine climb, rather than 'honestly, it'll be level' ...

Let me know if you plan one, I'd happily join a less pacey group for that.

hey we need to get some of these guys involved in the Tuesday Night Baking Club...

• #1435
We go down Whitedown. Thank fuck.
Speak for yourself.
Sounds like we might have a nice little group (coming together at Richmond Park?) for the ride out/back.

@ Jung - it's a bit of a budgetary concern more than anything, so bearing in mind a single is practically the same as a return, out and back is my preferred MO. The extra miles are good though - the ride out is all about timing, the ride back is a weird after hours affair; quiet, steady, mournful even. jonny might call it 'honest'.
-
• #1437
bmmf, i might even join you for the honest ride out and back if i can make time work for me.
-
• #1438
I'll ride out but doubt I'll have the time to ride back too.
@BMMF, I work near Waterloo so was planning on riding out from there. I could meet you somewhere centrally to ride out.

No ride back, no talk.

Fair enough. I'll see if I can grow some man's balls over the weekend.

I might be tempted to go 68" fixed for this one. Means pissing about with bar/brake/sprocket swapping, and adding a link of chain, but I'm not sure I'll be going to HH any time soon...
Geared audax with 25s and mudguards again though, if there's any chance of rain. I've already done one Surrey Hills ride in the cold pissing rain on mudguardless fixed, thank you very much. It made the rubberised paint on my Condor change colour temporarily. Weirdness.
