  • Exactly, probably fuck all. Some people can be sensitive to the smallest change in bike fit/geometry; usually though, it'll feel well different to start with but you'll get used to it in no time.

  • This is most certinaly mentioned somewhere in the last 86 pages, but anyone has done bike fit with Tony Corke at Cloud 9? I am getting a bespoke and a bike fit is a must, no?

  • If my shin hurts when putting power down or cycling at trmpo do my cleats need moving? If so what way?

  • Is the pain down the front of the shin? I've had pain down the outside of my right shin for a while. I think it's a combo of not enough arch support plus tight ITB and hamstring for me. I did find it got worse when I moved my cleats inward so my feet were slightly further apart. This also made my knees feel funny.

I'm not a bike fitter, but I believe generally cleats further back on the shoe is "safer" as long as you drop saddle height a little to compensate for the reduced effective leg length. Definitely better for achilles and knee related stuff, but maybe also for shin?

I think Steve Hogg's cleat fitting page is definitely worth a look. From memory his process is something along the lines of: find the 'knuckles' where your big and little toe join the rest of the foot, mark where they are on the sides of the shoe, draw a line across the sole between them, then put the centre of the cleat a little less than a cm behind the line.

  • Pain is down the front. I done the method similiar to steves. By using the bone of bog toe and putting the cleat ~15mm back from the indent/marker on the cleat. To be honest ive been fucking about with the left cleat because it didnt feel right as in not getting optimum power. Think will.leave as it was fine on my big mile commute this morning as well.

  • Hi. I've developed a burning pain along the outside edge of my right knee? Does this sound like it could be my IT band?

I can still cycle without experiencing too much discomfort, but I've started to notice it post ride... Any top tips appreciated.

  • Yeah could be. Glute stretches and foam roller helped that for me

  • 15mm back from being inline with big toe bone? Or back from the diagonal line between big toe bone and little toe bone?

If the former, might still be too far forward...

  • Had a longer ride than usual? Sounds like common knee overload. If so it should disappear in a couple of days. Keep cycling but take it easy

  • Err ....in line. I will adjust it slightly by moving it down a mm in the morning then

  • Hmm, so on my feet if I draw a line between the big toe bone and little toe bone it's a diagonal, sloping down towards the little toe side of my foot. The centre of the cleat should be a cm or so behind the line, depending on foot size, according to Steve hogg.

Don't do anything too drastic before a big ride, but worth getting them set up properly when you get a chance. If the cleats do end up moving back a bit, be sure to drop the saddle a touch.

  • Ok cheers. Will have a read tomorrow.

  • ^ Bespoke bike from Tony - nice. Having a bike fit is really important as it will help establish the frame dimensions personal to you. (Full disclosure - my boyfriend is a bike fitter so I hear about this stuff way too much!)

  • No, it's actually from the one and only SuperTed! Tony and Ted work together, so I guess, yes, it's a bespoke from Tony too. :-). Exciting time ahead. Might havr to sell a kindey first though. Any idea how much they go for these days?

  • Thanks both - I spent the bank holiday with a loaded bike doing a mini tour from london to the isle of wight & then around. Not massive distances, but must have been enough to piss something off...

  • Only one mention of Swift as far as i can see. Anyone have experience of them?

  • If anyone can find where I can purchase a new set of esole supportive footbeds I would be most grateful.

My current set is dying and they seem to have gone out of business, but my feet are so used to them that I'd like to avoid trying out a different brand.

  • i think @skinny can vouch for them

  • It might just be a strain from the extra weight on the bike. I've had that before from touring

  • Yeah I saw those already, they are just the arches though, no actual footbed.

  • If I were you I would be looking at companies that are still in business. It's only going to get harder to find the esoles.

  • Yeah I know what you mean, I got a set of the newer g8's and just dont get on with them. I've tinkered and tinkered and just cant get them comfotable like the esoles.

If i find esoles for sale anywhere I'll buy enough pairs to last the rest of time...

    Will contact pearsons now

  • Where did you get them from originally?
