Cancellara to attempt Hour record!
-
• #628
Awesome!
-
• #629
Fuck, he'll bury that
-
• #630
Let's see. I don't know if he has any track pedigree, but riding at full gas for an hour on the track is very different from doing the same on the road.
-
• #631
Yeah, there's less wind, less rolling resistance, less gear changing, less cornering.
Ok, it might be a bit more mental but then he's a TT'er.. he's already warped in the head.
-
• #632
In the article it says about how he averaged 51km an hour an the TT world champs
and that that somehow means he will smash the record
have they forgotten he has to ride with drops and no aero equipment etc
still i hope he bloody smashes it
hopefully will kickstart some proper attempts at it -

I hope he beats it to. Having that doping, no mark Sosenka holding it is terrible. This was the blue riband of cycling for many years and all the true greats of the sport have held it, i.e. Coppi, Anquetil, Merckx, Indurain et al.
It's a shame Bradley Wiggins hasn't gone for it, he'd be in with a very good chance of beating it.

There was a fair bit of downhill in the worlds aswell no? isnt that where he go up to some crazy speeds
How did the uphill-downhill compare on the Worlds course?I hope he beats it to. Having that doping, no mark Sosenka holding it is terrible. This was the blue riband of cycling for many years and all the true greats of the sport have held it, i.e. Coppi, Anquetil, Merckx, Indurain et al.

Exactly what im hoping for, that some of the well known riders will go for it, we never no lance might build that temporary veledrome and go for it himself if Cancellara takes it
Although if he does will it ever be broken! -

How did the uphill-downhill compare on the Worlds course?
It was a 3 lap course, so equal amounts of ascending and descending.
-
• #636
This is the kind of news that gives me a semi.
-
• #637
Although I hope he doesn't cop out and use lead-weighted rims like Sosenka.
-
• #638
It's not a cop out if it's UCI legal. Just because the UCI are retards when it comes to bike regulations.
-
• #639
Really looking forward to this, I hope he goes for both the records as no ones gone for the fastest possible one for ages.
Was a shame to see the news about Graham Obree last week, was always going to be a long shot anyway.
-
• #640
Would have fun to see Obree out there again with his 'new' bike but doubt he had the form for it

If the weathers OK, I'll be riding the Maidenhead Boxing Day 10
4th in 27:42 in my new colours.
http://www.maidenheadcc.org.uk/results/tt091226.htmAnybody else been racing?
-
• #642
Only on rollers.
Glad you didn't come off today, like a host of others. Good time for a Boxing Day affair. Is your new club kit faster or slower?
-
• #643
I don't expect a change of colour to make any difference, so far I've just bought the same OTP skinsuit in a different colour, although there is the possibility of a team livery Impsport Race Suit, the fancy pants one designed for Team GB, which might be a bit faster if I buy one.
-
• #644
I thought red skinsuits were faster.
-
• #645
I'll find out in the spring; it was long tights and jacket/jersey/base on Saturday
-
• #646
Today's 10 was an absolute shocker. Terrible time, couldn't even manage sub 30. Apparently no speed training in five months and near zero temps are not good for setting a pace.
-
• #647
Cold air's harder to cut through. I've definitely read that in a few places. Maybe someone can explain the physics?
-
• #648
The general consensus out there was that its far harder to get process oxygen from cold air making you have to work much harder. Also the tires won't warm up as much so there's a loss in adhesion and when you're pushing into a 12mph with a windhchill to -5 your leg muscles really have a hard time.
-
• #649
Sounds about right; plus flappier/more clothing; and the cold air thing would be density related, although I'm not sure how much more tightly packed the molecules would be.
Did you go for a lightish gear? It's a good time to mediumish gear TTs, as you warm up a little more easily, and there's nothing worse than trying to keep an overly large gear turning over with freezing cold joints.

I chickened out and went for gears today. I woke up late, despite an early night and forgot what time the start was. By the time I found out I only had an hour to get packed, drive to the start and get signed on. I didn't really have time to switch up the gears, remove the rack etc and generally uncommute my fixed. Probably a good thing. The climb into the wind up to a roundabout was enough to make me downshift quite a lot and easier to get started after having to stop for a police car on lights and sirens.
