Just save it up and help out when your old and slow.

Yeah I know what you mean. Unfortunately for me, I want to ride and Mal is my helper and that's us done.
I don't think a rider who is perhaps near the top of his racing career should have to worry too much about marshalling. You should get on with it and achieve as much as you can. 'Summer has too short a lease'.
However, it's a good thing for beginners to be doing, as many riders have been given enthusiasm by watching the top men of the day, which is what marshals do.
Naturally, it is to be hoped that those who have enjoyed competing in the past will turn out, but it must be admitted some of us are getting a bit past it and we could do with a new generation of retirees; perhaps the new vets standards will help here!

I'm getting silly thoughts about riding a 100 now...
Hmm, I could probably make the BDCA one at the end of August. I'll see how my 50 goes first.
I'm really pleased to see people thinking about trying the longer distances.
You should be aware that the BDCA 100 has a reputation as a fast event (course/time of day) and if it happens to be on a good day (which it wasn't last year) the results will dominate the BAR tables.
This, combined with the limit of only 100 riders, means that you willl probably need a respectable qualifying time to get accepted.
As it's also the last 100 of the year, there's no fall back event to enter, I think you may do well to look for another 100 to start with.
A less than perfect course doesn't really matter for a first try: you will be putting down a benchmark for a p.b. next year. -

The racing might stop due to lack of volunteers before then though.

At my old club in Melbourne you were required to marshall or find a marshall to take your place if you raced during the year. I've waved a few flags in my time so I'm not bothered about doing it. You're right though that given I'm aiming at long stuff I'm hardly going to miss a chance to race given the limited number of events.

Hello all, just found this thread. Are there lots of licences etc that you need to do a time trial, or could I potentially get some cheap tri bars for the track bike and have a go at a 10?

Come & Try It events you don't have to be part of a club, for others you do.

Sounds good. Is there a website I should check out?

There is a definite problem here which needs discussion, but it will not be solved by riders having to volunteer while at the height of their careers.

http://www.cyclingtimetrials.org.uk/ as tester says as well as the websites of any cycling clubs near you. They will often run club TTs that you'll be able to ride without the faff of Open entry forms for CTT Open events.

A great evening at Hogg Hill. The air was still which may have led to a number of PBs or improvements on last weeks time.
The good news is that we had 2 or 3 new members taking part and enjoying it.
The series continues into July with plenty of places . Don't worry about having to be there before 7 for signing on.

So should I expect a short 58 on the H25/1 next week then?

Haha, I was going to stay quiet about that... It was a sub par ride, way down the standings compared to last week's 10. I still felt tired from riding at the weekend, started off fine but I faded in the second half. Can't even blame the conditions as 2/3rds of the riders went under. Having another crack next week though, and doing the H25/2 a week Sunday.

H25/2 is fast. Skiiiiiiiiiiiiislope start.

Not such a big advantage on fixed, and the rest of the course is nothing special. I'm faster on H25/8

So am I but I haven't been to skislope since 1:00:04 a few years ago when my only TT training was doing poor times in races once a month. As for fixed, unclip, weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.......

My brother PB'd on the H25/1 last night with 56:29. He's pretty chuffed and rightly so. Great time.
