timetriallingforum has just opened a whole sub-forum for those of us on the cog, and my personal experience over the past decade is that a slow but steady stream of riders are taking to fixed, even if not full time.
Link? - can find it on the Main Topics thread

I'd definitely been keen to try and make my legs fall off again.
A good bit of promotion on the TT forum would surely drum up more interest?

One last Hounslow promotion for this year which might well make anyone's legs fall off is our club hill climb, this Sunday, Wooburn Hill, near Beaconsfield. See our website for details.

Hills are definitely not for me!

Go on Sam.

I'd be interested in seeing the 27 again next year and I'd like to have a go at it fixed.

I want the new season to start already.

My report can be found from this link.
Is it better to post reports here, or just to give a link like this?
I think UK Cyclesport does a good job with their layouts. -

If Tim Berners-Lee had intended us to copy and paste content to every audience, he wouldn't have included hypertext links in the protocol.

Following Tester's comment here is a link to my article on The Worthing and Newbury records:

I'd like to hear if other people find this an interesting subject.

Thanks for that - very interesting read.

A good read Chris, thanks :0)

Here are couple of photos which the are not included in the UK Cyclesport story - I hope they give something of the atmosphere of record breaking today. The first picture is about 10 miles before Worthing - It is raining heavily and there is a strong south west wind making the going tough.
A final footnote to our 2012 season: Loz only abandoned his ambition to go for the London Marlborough and Back record on the 4th November when he realised it was the day of the Veteran Car run, and that the Hyde Park turn would be impossibly crowded.
Let's see what 2013 brings.

The Hounslow turn. Olympic rings are visible, but it's not really a warm welcome for the cyclist.

Heavy traffic leaving Worthing - but the tailwind means he's almost keeping up with it.

hey clubman, (i was chatting to you at iver before the start of the gullivers travel ride)this loz guy seems like a proper nutter, those conditions look terrible!
out of interest why don't these challengers attempt the records at night? surely it would be a lot easier with the less traffic and would get a straight clear run? -

Hippy will be along in a minute with his data from the 24h showing the problem associated with racing at night.
Also, traffic is a problem when it's in your way, but when it's overtaking you it generates a nice draughting effect - this is the main reason why we now have traffic count restrictions on TT courses. In the olden days, the traffic difference between early (6am) and late (8am) starters on busy roads was big enough to affect the result, to the extent that some people who fancied their chances of a prize would DNS if they got given an early number.

Record breaking at night? It’s dangerous enough in daylight, and in any case the traffic lights are still there at any time of day.
When you say Loz seems ‘a proper nutter’ are you saying it’s mad to try to ride at that speed in those conditions, or that the whole project is too risky?
These recent pictures are all from the Worthing ride, and the rain only lasted for about thirty minutes. The wind that came with it was only a hindrance for the last part of the southward journey, and was a big help from Worthing back to the finish. Naturally, I’ve tried to pick photos that look interesting – most of the 110 miles were not particularly exciting.

Ah, the joys of getting behind a transit on an A road!

thanks for the explanation.
no what i meant was that he seems pretty hardcore attempting that record in those conditions. it didn't exactly look like pleasant riding!

A friend of mine is in hospital having been hit from behind yesterday while doing a 25 mile TT. She has a broken pelvis and cracked vertebrae. She is lucky to be alive.
Not heard any more. She is in hospital and apparently will be ok. She was riding at 25 mph. The car was going at 50 mph.
TTForum thread about it here
She is currently at home and undergoing rehabilitation. The car that hit her, forensics indicate, was travelling in excess of 70mph at the moment of impact but, presumably faster when it started to brake. She is so luckily to be alive.
She is a feisty young woman and has been entertaining General Lucifer and me with her tweets @michgreig

70mph?? what was the speed limit on that road?
-
• #3550
Ouch! Please let her know that there are loads of riders out there wishing her well, Clive. (What is this tweet of which you speak???)
A rear-ender is just so horrible, absolutely nothing you can do.....
I am beginning to show signs of interest in this.
