This year I was planning on doing a full audax series on fixed. Alas getting married and wimpery meant that I only got as far as a 300k and an abortive 400k attempt. Now that it's plain that I won't be attempting PBP on fixed I decided a couple of months ago that next year will be a time-trialling year.
Some sort of TT on fixed competition sounds like something I would be interested in. Can a link back to the relevant post be provided and can northerners play as well? -

I managed 19.9mph for my 16.4 mile hilly commute on the way home, 65" fixed. A new pair of decent tyres at 110psi did the trick.
I think this means I definitely have to do the first 10 mile TT that falls on a free weekend within a reasonable distance.
Spin to win! Your legs must have been a blur on the descents. -

Training will make you faster
I've started chainganging, but I'm in need of a bit of a more specific training routine. Any recommendations?

Intervals. Opinion varies about which ones, but at your level it probably doesn't matter. Keep it interesting by mixing them up, fartlek means speed play. Anything from 15s sprints to 20 mins at 10 mile TT pace is recommended depending on who you ask, and I'd suggest doing both, and some of the intermediate lengths too.

Looks like I might've won the Long BAR even with a crappy 100:

Congrats Hippy, thats awesome.
Despite making the LFGSS BAR spreadsheet I didn't ride a single TT this year. Life is getting back to normal now so I should be racing next year.

Nice one hippy!

The second place man should've got it.

The second place guy needs to work on his endurance...

Don't you have some dirt to play in?
I should've taken 10-15 minutes off my 100 but didn't and ran out of events to ride.
Next year I'll have a car from season begin so it should be much easier nail down some faster times.
But I might skip the 24hr so will only have a BBAR place to aim for.

Do you know of anything online decent to read about interval training?
As currently i do sets of 3 minuites on the turbo, and a few others but could do with more 'ideas'. Sort of building some programme of different lengths and intensities. -

For our one, yes
Catford/Bec double header is the big classic, but too late to enter unless you enter online within the next 24h
On line entries have not been coming through to us ?? where the hell they have gone to we don't know, so far 34 postal entries, Sean Yates is riding :D
If you want a place e-mail me your details and I will send them to Le the organiser and try and get you in, then post him the forms and cheque.
Cheers

There's loads off stuff out there, you'll need to make your own mind up about how much of it is decent.
I think this session* is fun :-)
*NB: I've never completed this session in full.

Well, I don't believe in changing the rules after the race has started.
Good, that's a clear and final decision.
I feel that it's not really worth finding and presenting a trophy when there is only one qualifier, but if we can get some more competitors next year we will have a trophy, and we'll engrave Tester's name on it as the 2012 winner.
As to the Sporting 27, I hope some of you will want to ride this event even though it's nothing to do with any other competiton- in any case it was always intended to be a fun event, and I hope that's how it will turn out. It's slightly unusual in that it's over three laps of undulating country roads, and although anyone can ride on any machine, fixed wheel riders are especially invited. A special incentive for them will be announced on the day. This will only be the second edition of the event, but the first one, run in 2010 had good coverage on London Cycle Sport which attracted a lot of attention.
Details are on the Hounslow web site, but the course description is missing. I will see that this is corrected before the event, but I am about to go away for a few days so I can't do this before next week.
If you want to enter send me a pm, and if you wish to be included in the handicap section add your best recent 25 performance (plus the course and the winner's name and time.) Of course, it should be possible to enter on the line, but by entering in advance you will make it easier for the organiser, and we will be able to have a planned starting order.

Clubman, If I haven't missed you before you go away, do you know what the (approximate) start location is? I'll look into coming but need to consider transport logistics.
**EDIT - I think I got it?

Monsal Hill Climb.
It was a lovely day out but I completely failed to distinguish myself in any way by coming second last with a hefty 2m48.9. Was beaten by a man with a broken chain who ran up the last bit and beat a man who struggled up over three minutes on a lower gear than me and pipped me to the lanterne rouge award.
Still, it was a fantastic event, very well run and wonderful to see some pro's clocking less than half my time. Winner bashed it up in 1.18 so Malcolom Elliot's 31 year record stands (he did that on fixed).
Next year I'll probably use the same gear, try to be stronger and try not to go off too fast at the start like this time. I reckon a better performance might have netted me a 5s gain so only moved me up 1 spot.

What gear were you on? I rode the Leicestershire Road Club's hill climb today, which serves as my own club's hillclimb champs. Pleased with a 3rd from my club and 21st out of 54 overall, 3.05 with a winning time of 2.37. 61'' was spot on.

I was on 42-20. I think a bit of training should easily see me knock 20s off that time. Alas my training plan fell apart when I came home from my honeymoon a month again and promptly contracted a pretty nasty cold that sat on me for the best part of three weeks. I started training a week ago but really only managed to sort out a bit of pacing.

Couple of nights out on the piss and a few tubs of Ben & Jerrys... my hill climb training is going great guns. #endofseasoncan'tbearsedanymore

Disqualify him:
- Hill Climbs
A competitor:
(a) may be held up but shall not receive a push start
(b) may not cover any part of the course on foot
- Hill Climbs
Training will make you faster, without needing to spend more money. I did 54:31 for 25 miles on a road bike when I was your age, and I didn't have a clue about training back then.
