  • When Boardman broke the hour record for the second time, using the now banned 'superman' position, I told a friend about it in the pub, detailing how far he'd ridden.

"What was his average speed?" asked my friend.

  • He might have been asking about his average speed per day or per month.

  • To Hippy. Good luck for the 24!

I'm surprised to be able to get in first with this.

    +1

I have a 25 on Sunday, so will be sharing your pain for a short while, the last time I did the course though I took two wrong turns and recorded a 1.03 so fingers crossed I may get under the hour..

People still ask me how long I ride for.

"Well, it's actually 8 hours and then I have dinner and go to bed and then finish with a short spurt around 2 hours the next day before tucking in to some tea and scones"

  • Only just heard about this from Scherrit today Hippy, good luck, you sound more prepared this time than last year.

    Don't forget the trainer.

  • All the best in this Hippy - look forward to seeing the "race report"

  • Good luck!!

  • Hippy has been out there since 14:18- anyone heard how he's doing?

  • 210 kms after 6 hours apparently.

    Go hippy!

    You mad bastard.

7 cheeseburgers and 5 large portions of fries.

    He's slacking.

    You mad bastard.

On course for 500 miles in that case, awesome.

    Go Hippy!

  • Hilingdon Sprint Tri : 25k - 44:55 for the bike split, no idea if that included T2
Note: the bike was last, after the run.

    Go Hippy btw!

  • G'wan Hippo

  • G'wan Shane.

  • Go hippy!

  • I mean: Go, hippy!

  • Testers love punctuation humour Schickster.

  • It makes you marginally faster.

  • Not if you come to a full stop at a roundabout.

  • A full colon or a semicolon aren't all that speed-enhancing, either.

  • On course for 500 miles

Not going to happen. Even Wilko, who knows a thing or two about 24h pacing, knocked out the first 100 in 4h on his way to the CR, i.e. he was 2.5mph faster on the Saturday afternoon than he was by the finish. That puts Hippy on course for about 460, i.e. exactly what he's aiming for.

  • Fair enough, I just timed his progress by 4, then knocked off a bit- as you can tell, I am highly experienced at guesswork.

  • he's now at 7.33 elapsed time, 255k's ridden

apparently he's still got enough in him to make lewd comments of a sexual nature to his support crew

  • But can he deliver on them in his breaks?

  • at 6.30 Hippy was 16 hours in with 509k's ridden
