Exactly. It's not simulating a tri-bar position if your arms are out at the widest part of the bars, that would imply riding aerobars on the bullhorns rather than extensions.
Anyway, Nik Bowdler won the Nat 12hr and was riding something that was basically ALL FAIRING, so I don't see how they can get pissy about this road bike dude.

Apparently it’s the light on the top rear bottle. Means it’s a light holder / fairing rather than a usable bottle
-
• #20654
That's not against the rules. Also, clipping a light to a bottle lid doesn't suddenly render the bottle unusable.
-
• #20656
I thought fairings were very outlawed?
Specifically the rear hanging ones?
-
• #20657
yeah, but I think George Fox is also fast so not entirely the same
-
• #20658
It's not a fairing though. It's two bottles and a rear light.
-
• #20659
I don't understand.
-
• #20660
I thought you worked it not law?
That’s a fairing and we all know it.

• #20661
Also probably these bars.

I have an Olympic triathlon coming up. Hope AliExpress do a version fast

wow. Only 1k

Specifically the rear hanging ones? The word "fairing" cannot be found in CTT regulations, and the words that are there are utterly inadequate for challenging wake infill fairings as the ordinary meaning of the words implies things in front of the rider.

My cafe conversations were misleading then. As were the people telling me things.

• #20666
Isn't this just the aero equivalent of hill climb bikes? I think it's brilliant
-
• #20667
clipping a light to a bottle lid doesn't suddenly render the bottle unusable.
Especially if the bottle is for holding your PitStop or mini pump & spare tube 🙂

If you look at his actual bike, it was less fairing than some modern OTP tri bikes

Aero-or-die is also arms at the widest part of the bars, whether they're narrow or wide like those old ITM ones the Italians used. If your forearms are supported, you're simulating a tri-bar position

When I'm riding on the hoods of my road bike with a 90 deg arm bend my wrists are touching the bars
Yeah, so are mine, but the contact doesn't go back very far.
As far as these extreme reach "road" bars with forearm support go, the proposed CTT rules committee (approved at the last AGM, but I've heard nothing about any appointments, terms of engagement, or requests for comment yet) will have to decide to what extent they want to regulate them, by for example defining a bounding box, given that there is currently no process for scrutineering and no resources to carry it out.
If people are going to rampantly take the piss like this, they'll kill the road bike class because it will be indistinguishable from the TT bike class by any meaningful measure of the various reasons given for creating a separate road bike class.

Perhaps, but my point was more that he'd added all that shit on and at the time it was a bit of a pisstake.
-
• #20672
Isn't that what always happens though?
Like, the UCI getting pissy with skinsuits in DH and people in gravel getting pissy about people using aerobars in the races and the obvious one is the UCI Hour Record - it's gotta be on a bike likes Merckx, cue CB running a 4 metre long stem and Ondrej Sosenka using 3kg wheels or whatever it was.
You make a new race, people push the limits to gain an edge. It's life.
I can't imagine CTT coming up with bar size and shape limits and organisers having jigs and scrutineers setup to measure bikes for legality.

Did they remove the race report or was it never published?

I’ve not seen photos of everyone, but if the issue is his position (rather than the light / bottles etc) then surely they’ll have to DQ half the field won’t they?

The chat on TTF says it was published and then removed
TBF looks totally fine under the rules. that's not puppy paws
More importantly, what handlebars are they?!
