Is there much in a frame with integrate front brake?
Not if the rest of your frame is letting the side down :)
-
• #16678
I don't think the frame is the main thing letting the team down!
-
• #16679
Yeah they're pretty diff. My p2 is long and low.

Was there much geo change btw P2 and P3?
P2 and P3 have always been exactly the same geometry as one another (in fact, the current P2 and P3 are the same frame with different forks), the change is between first generation frames and the 2013+ versions.

Since this time last year I have just used good old fashioned melted paraffin wax on it's own. Clean living bejesus out of chain, heat to 200 degrees in oven (preferably at least a day after cleaning if you have used white spirit or paraffin as the degreaser), dip into pot of wax melted using a wax heater as used by beauty therapists when they do a back, sack and crack, give it a few wiggles and remove 10 mins later.
They do defo need breaking in tho as the first 30 minutes of using the chain it feels very laboured. But once done it does feel super smooth.
Why all the effort for someone who will always finish in the bottom half of a results sheet? Well, to be honest, more than anything, it keeps the whole drive chain so much cleaner, to the point that I do it on all my bikes, from TT to road, CX bike to Brompton. And a fixie.
Saying all that (tl;dr), I have bought the ingredients as first used by a waxed chain specialist that I can't remember the name of, which is PTFE powder (used in pianos as a lubricant so bought from a specialist) and molybdenum disulfide (eBay). Once my current money issues are resolved (in other words I am broke) I will be buying a sonic cleaner and will start using the extra things.

Why heat the chain to 200deg?

Maybe it will stop all the little patches of black grease appearing on my carpet.
So much faff though. Reading the link above the coating only lasts 400k - that's not long between waxings for me.

Guessing melting out all the old wax, and maybe to help the new wax enter every aperture?
-
• #16687
True!
But once it starts to wear off/down I apply a bit of dry lube until I can be arsed to do the whole process again.

P2 and P3 have always been exactly the same geometry as one another
I don't think that this is true.
I'm pretty sure the classic P3 is longer and lower than the skinny's classic p2. The new P2 and P3 are both the same geometry and I believe that they are taller and shorter than either of their "classic" variants.

New P2 is higher (we have to use an adjustable stem to get Rich lower on it), but there's your answer and it's £25 or something from Halfords. It's a really good frame - for 2016 we used the rest of Rich's budget on aero testing rather than a P5! Trek Speed Concepts are good but many more ££ than a P2 which would be my first choice if I was buying new - our product manager is probably going to get one for next year.
Personally I ride a Focus branded Walser but that's because I want to be all flash and Euro for those that recognise what it is :D

Nice, is that the one with the super low q bottom bracket and cranks that also has a weird narrow rear hub/wheel?

If I binned my Tri Shiv and swapped it for the best Cervelo do you have any idea of ballpark improvement? I'm assuming the P2/3/4/5/6/whatever is faster than my Shiv module.
Are you still emailing out booking slots? I think I need to buy more speed as I plan to actually race next year.

If you guys were tempted by a P4 evo, I may be selling one in a few weeks (pending orthopaedic opinion)

One of my mates has just been diagnosed as having this:
http://www.velonews.com/2016/06/feature/power-iliac-artery-endofibrosis-cycling_409438
Basically he loses all power in one leg when pushing hard...
-
• #16696
Yeah, that's not a bad idea.
-
• #16697
Yeah, I spent ~£1000 being tested for that, only to get "inconclusive" as the answer.
I can't believe with all the resources they have it took Dombrowski's team longer than me to pin down the issue. I mean, do US pros not know how to Google?
"If the athlete persists, eventually they’ll find their way to a specialist — after months or years of increasingly expensive tests — who will diagnose IAE." This.
I've also had Meralgia Paresthetica symptoms, which is a hip nerve impingement and is probably related to my TTing crushing everything at the front of my hip, hence my shift to shorter cranks to open up my hip angle.
I've basically ignored it all with no real solution offered. I still broke my club 25, 50 and 100 records having to sit up mid-race to get my leg working again. I could easily knock time off all of them if I could actually finish a race without carrying a dead leg for half the course! Don't really know where to go with it though. Surgery is a horrible option and anything else I do costs me a fortune so not being pro it's not really worth it.
I sent these to my fitter back in 2012:

Got some responses from various forums too:

Yeah he's not keen on the op either, but there don't seem like many other options once position, stretching etc have been exhausted.
Bang for buck I don't think frame swaps are a great idea. Happy to be proven wrong though.
Was there much geo change btw P2 and P3? Maybe Bussell has body shape requirements suited to P2?
