Faster is better and I got their first...
Oh, wait...
Um..

It was the squeakiest bum moment I've had on a bike in years. Thankfully all the weight over the fork in TT position meant I avoided unicycling down the Bank.

Did you hear it ping off? I still have the lawyer lips on my Shiv so it'd not do a lot.
I've lost a rear skewer before when the bearings on an MTB rear wheel had gone and the skewer rotated or something shooting the threaded knob end off (ooh nurse) into the nearby shrubbery :)
Again, fine to ride for a while just don't try and bunnyhop a curb. -

Good work by Jane, but the real story is the 30mph+ trike

I did my first medium gear 25 this evening on a club TT. Homemade road bike, no extensions, no pointy hat, no skin suit, no aero aids at all. Running a 48x18 gear, fixed, so comfortably below a 72" gear with 23c tyres. I ended up with an official time of 1:07:56 which I'm reasonably happy with, and a NP figure of 300W for the whole ride, which I'm very happy with. It's the first time I've held 300W for an hour. Now all I have to do is get my weight down to 75kg, and I'm a member of the 4W/kg club. Mind you, I haven't been 75kg at any time within the last 25 years, so that's not guaranteed...

48x18...1:07:56
105rpm, not bad for a MAMIL :)

I think Saturday's session at the UCI velodrome helped. Plenty of time in a 28/9mph paceline on 50x16.

Here's a pic of the chap who demolished the trike record. And a question:
I'm guessing more rolling and air resistance with a trike. In which case, mad watts, yes?

Yeah, but the watts you output are doubled because of the two rear wheels. Quite simple really.

Are there specific rules for trikes?
Just thinking that without the danger of pedal strike, you could have a really low bottom bracket, short cranks and get much more aero than that. -
• #15465
Makes sense - thanks.

Only the dispensation to have two brakes on the front wheel
without the danger of pedal strike, you could have a really low bottom bracket
They usually do, compared with a solo, but the actual room for manoeuvre is not as much as you'd think after allowing for toe-down pedalling and a bit of bump clearance.

I know it's a long shot, but does anyone have a 130BCD, 1/8", 55T or 56T chainring they would like to sell to me?

• #15468
it's a long shot
Not as long as you think, I haz 55T Stronglight, the upper one in this pic, used only for a few 10s.

What are the rules on leaving the course on a 12hr? It's only 0.9 miles to my house from the A31...

Question is: why?
-
• #15471
First 50 next weekend, do I just ride it like a 25?
Should I take a bottle, and if so where is the best place to store it? -
• #15472
Nah go in steady and wind it up. Negative split.
Use a camelbak down your chest. You on power? Maybe start at 90% of recent 25 power and wind it up if you can. Start a bit higher or lower depending on how you feel on the day (good or bad day).

I really don't like Vittoria.
