  • You could ask for clarification from Oxford Uni / CTT? Could just be an admin/timekeeper error? My Garmin time was about 10 seconds faster than the official time on Saturday so could be worth a shout?

  • Will just wait for official results.
I'm not worried about my time. Just didn't know how a tied time works for pacings. I presume official results will reflect what's tester said.

  • Link no worky.

  • You 'could' request a later start time, but that is totally down to the organisers discretion. Just throw in lots of apologies, sorries, please, and thank yous if you do :0)

  • Fair point. I did a lot of it a couple of years ago and had some good results, but that was on the back of a half-decent winter base.

  • They deleted it.

  • Can't do much midweek MTB racing this year as Beastway clashes with family commitments. Would like to do something competitive to keep an edge.

One option is a mid week TT series at Weston on the Green. Never TTd before, don't have a road bike. Advert states MTB/hybrid welcome - does anyone?

  • I've never seen an MTB/hybrid at Weston but I've only ever really been there for the TTT events.

The whole setup at Weston is pretty relaxed so I'm certain that MTB/hybrid wouldn't be a problem though. The midweek series at Weston is on Tuesdays, no? There are also the Oxonian club TTs on Wednesdays, but they are on roads all around (west) Oxfordshire so may not always be so convenient.

  • Advert states MTB/hybrid welcome - does anyone?

Don't know about Weston, but I've seen all sorts on the Thicket, and not just by looking down 😀

MTB, hybrid and folding bikes turn up every year. No ordinaries lately but certainly in living memory we've had them.

  • A bike is a bike. Bonus points if you beat someone on a better bike!

  • I'm trying to sell the wheel below, but someone on the UK TT Facebook group is saying it's not CTT legal as the holes are not more than 45% of the surface area.

Are they right? How would I find out? What measurements would you need to find out for me?

  • This one. Stupid picture wouldn't upload:

  • The Chinese carbon clincher tri-spoke?
    Does look borderline tbh.

Easiest way to measure is to take a photo with the axle at the centre of the photo and with a plain background. Then use photoshop to cut out the wheel circumference and up the contrast, then count the black vs background colour pixels.

  • Does it matter? Or do they only allow CTT-legal wheels to be sold? Just list it on a triaffalon site and say it's 'too fast for CTT' or something. They'll snap it up.

  • Snap it up, probably poor choice of words for unbranded Chinese carbon wheels...

  • Hopefully soon it's NMFP...but it matters to potential buyers who might want it for TTs. I don't really like the thought of joining a tri forum/FB group.

Here's a picture of the same wheel against a plain background, could anyone else do the techy maths bit @danb described?

  • That photo seems to be from last year's RTTC 10 miles Women's National Championship.

Given the current debate around the 3cm rule it's a silly photo for the CTT to have posted, but the photo tells us nothing about the legality of her position at BUCS this year (I don't know her, nor anything about her current position).

  • could anyone else do the techy maths

If nobody wants to count the pixels, tell me the rim depth and spoke width and I'll plug them in to my H3+ sketch and use Fusion to calculate the open area

  • Yes indeed (I realised after posting). But the rule was the same last year as this, so it shows their indifference and ineptitude.

  • Looking through the rest of the set, it seems that Grill is onto something - if we made people sit behind the BB, we wouldn't need to regulate the front half of the bike.

  • It certainly seems easier to look like you're complying if you're not forwards of the BB, but then I suppose that's hardly surprising - if yer bum's further back, the chances are your elbows will be too.

  • Did a quick count by roughly filling in the open areas green and then counting the number of non-white pixels vs the number of green - I make it around 43% open area - so likely just CTT non-legal.

  • Thanks for the offer.

The rim is 70mm deep and the spokes are 70mm wide.

    Is @danb correct?
