Out if interest what kind of time are you hoping to get in on?
-
• #14703
Fastest time last year was 20:06.
-
• #14704
You mean slowest?
-
• #14705
His fastest I think, it did close on sub 20 at one point last year but that was in September, Easter seemed a fair bit easier to get into last year, I'd imagine you'd be fine with that, I think in much more marginal!

Oh, right, that makes sense. I was wondering what the cutoff was - I thought that's what you were asking but rereading, no.

As above, that stretch really is horrific - as well as the issues mentioned above there are a few sets of lights on it too.
Move it about a mile east and you have the roads up through Epping - they should be just as quiet at that time, and although they're a bit more up and down, you're less likely to do damage to yourself or your bike.

Thanks mate, I do agree and ride out that way a lot - last time got overtaken by Tao GH doing the same as me on his TT rig.
I just wanted something to practice the specific distance with some RAB practice - but only really early so as to avoid too many lorries and red lights.

Does anyone actually know what the cut-off usually is for the V718? I was quite hoping to get into the Good Friday one with 20:32 as my fastest, but not sure if will make it.

Fixed testers- what's the trick for plugging the bar ends that don't have a brake in? Normal bar ends plugs, or is there something more aero I could consider? (Not that that will be enough to negate the belly and the spacer stack)
-
• #14711
@mdcc_tester was making bar end plugs.

Can get these butt plus jobbies for £30/pair or these round ones for a tenner. Alternatively, wiggle have some flat ones for 69p a pop.
-
• #14713
Actually Ptown reminded me I bought Profile ones that are nice and rounded for maybe 80p each.

There's literally zero watts to be gainerd there tbh, so only worth it from an aesthetic perspective.

• #14715
And it looks like a cock.

• #14716
Be nice to @umop3pisdn, he's got some useful advice.

Fitted my bar end shifters. All I can think is of the watts I'm losing having them.
Think they'll go before the dragstrip races! -

Oh, NRHR, do I go Zipp 404 or 909 and disc?
I wonder if I can be faster on 404s. -
• #14719
Disc I say, weather looks good now aswell for it!
Hmm wonder what a week of the bike will have done to my legs... -
• #14720
Always disc and deep
-
• #14721
Always disc and deep
Always disc, deep depends on whether you can handle it in the prevailing wind, although that's moot in skinny's case if the choice is between 909 (i.e. 404+disc) or 404.

Went and had a look at the course today. Jeez, up and down for the first 15miles.
Looks great fun.Disc and 909 will be okay. Might change my tyres though, from conti tt to 4000s. One of the backroads has a lot of gravel and crap in places. Plus better grip down the descents. But then again, I'm lazy.
The course has been shortened due to road works, so only 22miles.

Ok how nest to train for a 24hr tt. I ride alot anyway but i wonder if there is snythkng i am missing. I have been doing long rides to get a better feel of how much i need to eat. I dod 175 miles on sunday for exmple but there is more to this than just doing long rides i am sure. I will doing it in a road bike but no clip on bars as i hate them. So hippy what am j missing. Id like to crack 400 miles as well as finish.
Yeah that stretch is shit. Crap road surface, loads of lorries doing at least 40mph with a mix of one and two lanes each way. On the plus side, northbound should be pretty free of left hooks once you get past the first couple of roundabouts and turn-offs.
