I vote half way.

Not sure if it's related but on my cx bike, chainline to the middle of the cassette is obviously better from the poisition of the inside chainring. But with a 54t, because of the size, you might have an issue with it fouling the chain stay, so might only be able to run it on the outside position.

They should've got me riding it sooner. My fat arse would have that road smoothed down quicksmart!
Anyone ridden H10/17 or H10/22 and the F20/10 that can compare times? I guess I'll just ride it myself and see what happens. I'm more interested in the longer rides really but I'd still like to drop my 10s and 25s.

I just ran mine where the big ring was. It will depend more on which end of the block you're spending most of your time in - optimise it for that.

There is a rumour that this may be the last season in which the E2 is used. It's become a de facto motorway...
-
• #11607
Isn't that the case with every road within spitting distance of London's Famous London Carpark?
-
• #11608
Doing the same.
I'd planned to sit it towards the outside, so the chainline is straight in the racing gears.

Has H10/8 become fast or were last seasons fast times a result of some very fast guys racing there a lot?
Just realised my quickest 10 time was the first 10 of a 25 I did there last year, as far as I can remember it wasn't my best day...

That's the second time I've heard this. Where are the rumours coming from?
I've raced on it 5 times and felt 100% safe every time thanks to courteous drivers. Single carriageway TTs in Kent, different story!

H10/8
Rob Sharland (Paceline RT) 00:19:13 (CTT)
Julia Shaw (Drag2Zero) 00:20:58Anyone gone faster?

• #11612
Dowsett has the course record, an 18. James Boyman of Farnham RC is also stupidly quick and generally a bit quicker than Rob - he did 19:08 in the December 10.
@Sainsburys_Ed basically just more fast people riding it.
-
• #11613
I'm gonna ignore anyone who's ridden a Grand Tour in CTT times. So a short 19 is likely the record.
-
• #11614
Amateur will do an 18 on it this year, guaranteed.
-
• #11615
Probably me.
I think it's safer than it looks . The slip roads are the problem. As I understand it the concern comes from the fact that the dual carriage way on the A11 up to Norwich is now complete. So Norfolk sort of now does have a motorway . The expectation is more and faster traffic. Hence the belief that the risk will increase and that permission may be lost. I could be wrong though
I was a steward on it last year.. I can't say I enjoyed spending a Saturday afternoon standing on a roundabout pointing which way to go or not to go.
I suspect the bigger risk to events on the E2 it will be the capacity of clubs to organise and steward TTs on it.

What are you going to guarantee it with? Double Coat Tim Tams are good for me..
-
• #11617
Good point, I hadn't thought about clearances. I'll see if my Google-fu is up to finding a close-up of a 54t chainring on a P5. Doubt it...
-
• #11618
I should probably try and have a look at some data from races and see what gear I spend most time in. Can't be that hard to work it out.
-
• #11619
Gauntlet thrown down.
-
• #11620
Sharland should be able to do one, and Boyman is faster than Sharland...
-
• #11621
Data or just like, you know, know. :)
-
• #11622
I heard they had both quit TTing to take up cake decorating when they heard I was going to actually do a single VO2 level effort this year*.
*may not actually be true
-
• #11623
Yeah. I'll be interested to see what I could do.
Need to do some aero analysis really. It's a fuckin' arms race.
-
• #11624
You're telling me! Real paradigm shift last year.
-
• #11625
Need to do some training first too really.
And get a TT bike. But then, i'm all about the arms.
Technical question from me. If I'm going to build my new TT bike as a 1x10 (which is the current plan) is it better to have the single front chainring in the position the large chainring would normally sit on a double, or try to have it halfway between the positions the two chainrings would normally be in? Or doesn't it matter?
Gearing, if that's relevant, is going to be 54t front, 11-23t rear. It's only going to be used on flat drag-strip courses - I'll use my existing bike for more sporting courses.
