  • Wasn't blown away by AJ's performance but when your entire game plan is to stay on the outside and move it's perhaps not that surprising he looked so uncomfortable on the inside. Difficult to tell if it was the shots that were rattling him or it was the mental stress of being in a zone he'd been training so hard to keep out of.

Be interesting to see how he develops from this as his "sweet science" tactic likely won't work on a fighter that has put in some training for him.

  • How do people know that Wilder was dodged and not the dodger? I reckon wald would have beaten him.

  • Anyone who mentions dodging or ducking and bums should be treated with caution.

  • For sure, it's impossible to know what actually happens in the myriad 'contract negotiations' etc but when you hear about what AJ's people were supposed to be demanding for a unification fight (two genuine world champions meeting) there's a conclusion you can draw if you're so inclined. It seems very fair to say Whyte has been dodged by all concerned tho..

  • Modern boxing is all about "dodging and ducking" due to the myriad of so-called world championship belts. Mayweather has been the one best placed, over the past ten years especially, to exploit this as a strategy: hype the grudge match for years, pull out of matches when made, generally duck and dive until the mooted opponent has aged just enough that genuine danger is largely averted (apart from knockdown scares from opponents like Mosley) and Mayweather knew that never, ever being out of shape and being one of the best pure boxers ever, the odds were hugely in his favour.
Sugar Ray Leonard did the same thing.

Pay per view, the alphabet soup titles, money and resultant padded records have destroyed quality boxing generally. Notice how no-one in MMA has a perfect record. Everyone has to fight. There are no evasions. Delays, sure. But everyone has to fight ranked opponents.

Back in the forties Ray Robinson fought LaMotta twice in World Championship bouts in three weeks. They fought six times altogether.

Things like the Super Six/World Boxing Series do offer something to counter the ridiculous proliferation of "world titles."

  • I've just started dipping my toe into boxing so this is a timely explanation. Thanks.

  • There are still good fights and good fighters out there, it's just that greed has eroded the quality that used to exist. Especially for the heavyweights. If there was one single world championship belt and all ranked fighters fought without dodging each other (or being made to dodge due to contractual negotiations) then Fury would probably be numero uno. If lifestyle lapses didn't get in the way. Another reason Ruiz wasn't competitive against Joshua the second time round. He basically beat himself. Fury would take apart Joshua.

  • Mayweather is 50 and 0 btw.

  • For the reasons I mentioned.

  • Wilder vs Fury II. A fight I didn't see happening is three weeks away.
Bookies have Fury a very slight favourite, think this might be a bit of home bias.
Pretty 50/50 in my opinion, I'd slightly favour Wilder because I think he'll land at least one good shot.
So question for me is can Fury get up from it when he does.

  • Fury's got a new trainer, which I can't see as being overly positive. I doubt he'll be able to change his style and knock Wilder out, despite what he says.

  • Ryan Garcia looks so good, he throws absolute missiles last two fights haven't gone past 2mins. One to keep an eye on.

  • He's looking good but he needs to step up and fight someone solid soon.
He called out Haney after that fight: that'll be a tough test for him if it happens.

Edit: Linares in the summer apparently. Great fight.

  • Predictions:
Fury on points if it goes the distance or Wilder to knock him out in the 8th

  • Yeah true but he still looks the business, so excited to see how he gets on as his quality of opponents increases

  • Yeah for sure. Quick hands and a lot of power. He's got the potential of being a big crossover star

  • Had to switch the doc on Fury off after 5 mins. If the lumox can last 12 rounds against Wilder then fair play. Otherwise knock the lamp post out n hit I'm again when he whispers some Gypsy charms.

  • Fury majority decision at 18/1 tempting?

  • Where are you seeing that?!

  • Only Ladbrokes and Coral are running the line at the moment, both have it at that.

  • gambling on decisions in vegas is a fool's erand

  • If you are saying Fury will knock him out you can get 5/1 on that :)

  • I’ve backed Wilder to win £30 not massively confident.
    Should be a good fight.

  • They're both a lot heavier than last time, and that'll take it's toll in the later rounds, if it goes that far. Maybe Tyson can get a knock-out in the 10th, if Wilder runs out of gas, Or Wilder's extra power can finish off Fury by the midway. Fuck knows.

  • Fury surely has to knock Wilder out - can't see him winning any other way
