So Tyson Fury's big return is to fight Sefer Seferi. Anti Climax of 2018
-
• #1003
Yep, someone I’d not heard of.
A seemingly very average cruiser weight. -
• #1004
An average cruiser who got beaten the one time he stepped up to heavy
-
• #1005
Exactly. I can’t see how this fight is at all helpful to Fury.
-
• #1006
It helps him get back into the proverbial saddle, and nothing more.
-
• #1007
Indeed and difficult to moan from a purely boxing perspective. Seems a complete gimme but only beaten once (yes, indeed, at heavy), and by Manuel Charr who was/is a decent benchmark. Maybe a cruiserweight (more/better movement??) is a better test for Fury than a fat HW plodder

I’d have to disagree. He’ll have hard sparring sessions.
Does the sport no favours in my opinion. -
• #1009
Take your point - but I was expecting such a match up so disappointment is tempered somewhat. Who would you have liked him chucked him against (if possible)? Dillian Whyte?
-
• #1010
He's had 2-3 years inactivity, had his license revoked due to mental illness and gained and lost a lot of weight during. A tune up is the right move IMO.
-
• #1011
I think HW match making is hard.
Someone like Hammer, Takam.
With Hammer he’s beaten him before but Hammer is durable and will come to fight.
I think Fury fights to the level in front of him. I’d worry about motivation against a lower opponent personally. -

For anyone interested in a good book about journeymen, home and away corners, fixed fights and a bit of perspective on the majority of fights that go on up and down the country, I would recommend "Journeymen" by Mark Turley. If nothing else, it will explain why a boxer with a 5-2-100 record might be a whole lot better than most would expect, and a whole lot better than many prospects with winning records.

The 0 marketing hype has arguably ruined boxing.

I noticed it before but put it down to an early morning video or excess weight but Tyson’s voice and breathing sounds knackered...too much coke??

Watkins Vs Okolie, I know nothing of Watkins. Can anyone enlighten me?

Despite Fury fight being an absolute joke I did see a really good fight last night.
Terence Crawford is now a 3 weight champion after beating Jeff Horn. First time I’ve seen Crawford box and he has all the skills and simply battered Horn.

Punched in the throat during sparring, apparently

Whilst at Uni I was fortunate enough to spend time at the Newbridge Gym, I spent quite a lot of time with Brad. Travelling to Preston to see him fight Micheal Jennings for the British title was both a highlight and a eye opener to professional boxing and the fine lines that exist within the sport.
Down and almost out in the first round, Jennings fought back well, almost handing it to Brad again in the 12th, before winning a decision that hid the competitiveness of the fight. Jennings went on to fight Miguel Cotto for a World Title.
On a personal note Brad was warm, kind, fun and assured. Looking back I think he found professional sport lonely, maybe why we spent so much time together, which in turn may well have contributed to some of the problems he has had. I hope he can shape his future in a positive direction.I’ve always had an uncomfortable relationship with boxing and this is just another chapter in it. The old adage it’s rare a boxer leaves with; success, wealth and their health is bluntly on point.

I’m getting pretty bored of the Wilder & AJ saga.
Povetkin is a serious threat so even if the Wilder fight isn’t made could still get a good fight! -
• #1020
Completely agree. I dare say the most likely outcome of this pantomime is that they won't meet and Wilder, in particular will miss out on a monster payday; the iron needs/needed striking as its only going to cool
-
• #1021
Well done, Chisora. That was well good.
-
• #1022
The negotiation with Fury has got to be Wilder attempting to create leverage over AJ right?
No way he will fight Fury this year. too much risk. He'd be expected to knock him out but if fury just leans on him in that way he does who the fuck knows what will happen.

Fuck how funny if the Gypsy King out jabs the Bronze Bomber. 😎
-
• #1024
I'd suggest Fury trying to get some press over anything else.

At his last fight Fury was pretty hopeless. Out of condition, and not moving at all.
Bookmakers have Stevenson Jack pretty much evens. I would have thought Stevenson would be the favourite being champion etc.
Hmm tempted to put something on Jack
