  • Stop asking stupid questions and go have a fucking look at one! knob!!!

  • I'm now starting to lok at panniers because I only really have money for one bag to tour and commute with, and a messenger bag won't do it.

Carradice seem excellent and al customer service feedback I here is second to none - often they just give you spare parts for free when something needs replacing.

One question - will I fit a mac in a saddle bag of this size?

Mac Mini or a 24" jobbie with keyboard and mighty mouse?

    is the standard 13' macbook.

Then click on a saddle bag, Then read the dimensions of the saddle bag. If the dimensions of the saddle bag are greater than you mac book (in cm) then it should fit. If not try another saddle bag untili you find one big enough.

  • Hmm, the mac is almost is max measurement.

32 out of possible 35 across

And 22 out of 21 high - but it would probably stretch. Carradura bag would certainly fit.

do we have to answer every question that you could look up for your self?

  • ahhh but if you have one pannier then on which side of the bike should it be hung on to maximise the security of the Mac when its in the bag, or should that be a seperate thread?

  • why have the panniers if it is to be wrapped in thread?

Not being an internet geek I do not understand such acronyms.

Fortunately he advised you on what they meant, so you don't have to make a new thread asking.

  • Yep that's pretty much what it is, only not as sexy and wrappyroundy.

Anyone actually tried one of these? How good are they? I hear the Rivendell Silver Hupe eats frames...

  • Just ordered my Carradice Barley Saddle Bag (Evans £33.99 with a 15% promotional code i found ).
Very exited, only plan to put my lunch box and puncher solutions in there, for my work commute.
The barley is the smallest one, so i think i wont need a rack for support?

Yes, they are crap and either slide down the seat stays or are done up tight not to slip and crush the seat stays :(

    Get the SQR block

    http://carradice.co.uk/racks-and-attachments/spare-sqr-block.shtml

There is a metal frame that goes on the saddle bag that hooks in to it as well.

  • I've used both the old style bag-loop and the SQR bags - be warned that if you have a lot of set-back on you saddle (for me due to long legs/thighs or it might be a steeper seat-tube than is ideal on your frame), then you will be hitting the bag with your thighs on every pedal stroke. It annoys the living piss out of you and you then sell the bag after one ride with it.

  • Picked up my Barley saddle bag today, very happy with it, and i rather like the look of it.

However i have some concerns, although i don't need a support rack, once attached to the saddle loops and seat post, it creates a almost vertical angel.

The main compartment has a draw string but the side pockets don't. So i could see things just falling out.
We will see, intelligent packing my be necessary.

Loose some personal items but at least my back will be dry.

  • Got a Carradice Barley yesterday, and used it for the first time on my commute today. The back of my thighs brush the bag just slightly, but it's less of an irritant than sweaty back from my Crumpler. I may just have to sort out the best position for it.

Seems really well made, and great value for money. having the person who made the bag write their name on the inside ("Sue" in my case) is a really nice touch

  • Bought a carradice College saddlebag as well as the SQR mount. Very impressed with the quality of the bag itself and capacity it has. SQR mount i also find very good quality, and very easy to attach and remove the bag.
So far after 4 weeks of commuting, definately worth the money.

  • Inspired by this thread (and my plan to ride to Wales the weekend after next) I have just been on the phone to the very nice ladies from Carradice and I've bought a Camper Longflap to match my much loved Barley.

    Damn you, Velocio!

  • Long shot but....

... l have the nelson low saddle long flap, exc condition, and could do with the extra space of the standard nelson longflap. if anyone has one in exc condition and wishes to swap, l would like to hear from you.

I didn't realise watching a video of someone packing their saddlebag would be so hypnotizing. Either that or I need to get out more

Mine was made by Kelly, I have been using it on my MTB. Not sure what its going to look like once its fitted to my SS commuter!

  • I'm considering getting one of these for the commute, probably the little Barley one that holds 7 litres.

A long shot, but I don't suppose anyone has one that I could borrow for a day or so, to check it out?

  • i'm thinking of getting a carradice to go on my Hill Special for the DD, and some other long rides i'm planning over the summer, does anyone know any shops in london that stock carradice, or have you all bought them on-line?

i'd like to have a look at the different models to compare size.

also, i have a modern charge saddle, not a brooks, does anyon know if a carradice will attach to a modern saddle ok?... there seems to be very little info about attachment.
