hurricane, does it "chill your bones" because you know Chris or because of the way the article was written?
If I didn't know either of them I would find the article well written and interesting even if it is an expose (I know there should be an accent on that, just don't know where).
Bare in mind that Georgie is a struggling journalist, when she was aproached about writting an article for the observer it would have been tough for her to say no. And if what she says is at all true, then you can't blame her for doing it (and yes, she was aproached, she didn't sell her story "OK!" style).
Don't know the parties but I'd be peeved if my wife 'went to the press'.

most people in this country are lazy bastards, hence taking a day off work given any chance.
A trait the Australians inherited and improved upon, no doubt.

A mate of mine's (now ex) girflriend wrote a similar piece in our student magazine when they broke up.. Regardless of who did something wrong in the relationship, it's just spiteful in the extreme to make such details public..
The only purpose it seems to serve is to hurt the non-writing partner and involve mutual friends.. Moral high-ground fail

Im doing my best not to get caught up in all of this... while now being pretty hypocritical by posting this..
however, there are quite a few of us on here that know Chris and Georgie personally, very well actually. Some of us may know what happened, some of us don't want to know. But whatever it was, it has happened. Lets just leave it as that. The forum isn't the place for it.

+1 (now that I know this wasn't a joke...)
Back on thread - I just went for a run and it's mayhem out there - wankers going round corners at 50mph when you can see the ice, and the bloody council obviously has no interest in encouraging people to make more sustainable transport choices as the cycle lanes are still covered in ice, and the pavements haven't been gritted. I was running on major routes and was slipping around all over the place.
It really does annoy me that they've obviously assumed that nobody walks anymore and made no attempt whatsoever to clear the pavements - which in itself encourages even fewer people to walk or cycle.

Philip Larkin - Toads Revisited
Walking around in the park
Should feel better than work:
The lake, the sunshine,
The grass to lie on,Blurred playground noises
Beyond black-stockinged nurses -
Not a bad place to be.
Yet it doesn't suit me.Being one of the men
You meet of an afternoon:
Palsied old step-takers,
Hare-eyed clerks with the jitters,Waxed-fleshed out-patients
Still vague from accidents,
And characters in long coats
Deep in the litter-baskets -All dodging the toad work
By being stupid or weak.
Think of being them!
Hearing the hours chime,Watching the bread delivered,
The sun by clouds covered,
The children going home;
Think of being them,Turning over their failures
By some bed of lobelias,
Nowhere to go but indoors,
Nor friends but empty chairs -No, give me my in-tray,
My loaf-haired secretary,
My shall-I-keep-the-call-in-Sir:
What else can I answer,When the lights come on at four
At the end of another year?
Give me your arm, old toad;
Help me down Cemetery Road. -

Typical that we have to put a monetary value on everything.
Yesterday I saw lots of happy faces and people talking to each other. Priceless. How many cities do you know with the same bus network/public transport as London that can cope in the snow?
+1 Quality day yesterday, everyone chatting, smiling and having a good time.

Sadly people who take the attitude that they can take an extra day off are often the people who find themselves with plenty of spare time on their hands. We are in a recession. Job losses are happening. More will happen. Getting another job is going to be very difficult. If you want to keep your job, show that you are willing to make an effort. Get noticed making an effort. Then when the choice comes down to you or the other guy, you may still be working this time next year.
Did you just read that ?

Ok - I take that back. A&E staff are a bunch of workshy, lazyarse monkeys.
oi, at least my father managed to cycle up to St Thomas from Wimbledon yesterday and the day before (3rd and 2nd), not only that, the bus that go between St Thomas and Guy's is out of service, so he even end up cycling between both end to get around.

About 10 years ago I was living in Trondheim, working as a caretaker at the University.
I lived in a basement flat in a tiny eastate on the side of a mountain a couple of kilometers outside of the city center.
There was nothing between the group of houses and the city apart from a road, used mainly by goods vehicles.I was waiting for the bus in the worse weather I had ever experianced (-18, gale force winds), when, because of the snow storm, the bus drove right past without seeing me.
I (stupidly) decided to start walking along the road, thinking that I might be able to get a lift. I figured that my Norwegian boss would'nt consider cold weather a good reason not to come to work. This was, in fact, incredibly stupid, as when, after a walking about a kilometer, a lorry did come, it had no chance of seeing me. I dove off the road to aviod being hit, over a crash barrier, rolled in the snow and landed painfully against some trees. Below these trees was cliff face and then the north sea. In a state of shock, and full of snow, I climbed back up to the road, and somehow made it to work an hour late. Coming in the door I was nearly in tears, and could barely stand.
"you're late!" my boss says with out looking up.
"missed bus, walked in, very cold, had accident" I mumbled, my jaw completely seized.
"what in this weather, crazy Englishman, you trying to get yourself killed. You should have stayed at home!"Not so much HTFU but UYFH (Use Your F**king Head).

True. Now people are accustomed to the snow they are drving as normal dispite the fact there is still plenty of ice about.
I hate people.

+1 on the pavements moan. My childminder won;t go out to collect my kid from school, as she has a buggy and two underr fives to keep upright, she can't face it.
Means I have to leave work to go and collect, walk him half a mile to the childminder, then go back to work.
