  • dude, reckon the 3 speed fixed sturmies are gonna go off this year, (2010 bike year)
weve had a couple or three years of single speed fun in the mainstream now,
people want an easy maintenance machine that they wont kill them selves on up and down hills........

  • [QUOTE=lucas;1042944]^ charmister road is a dodgy as.

it rocks actually, Lucas you just need to practice filtering at speed more.

No it doesn't ... because I want to continue to live and wearing a bellend on my head won't do that when I get taken out by a car ... again ... however that is a different debate.

What rocks about riding is something which you will never understand because you don't get the burn when everything hurts and you fight through it and even enjoy it ... you've told me yourself you don't get that and thus you won't ever experience it, you are missing out.

  • theres heaps of things I do in life that i could say you are missing out on, but thats personal and dosent matter to debate. It could well be I dont know the 'burn', then again maybe my fitness is just a higher level.

  • Stealth!

Used for Turbo/Winter fitness and I wanna set it up to train for and hopefully compete in some hill climbs next year, as well as track use if I ever get round to it...Speaking of which:

Oh and Luke, I've now dropped to 66GI. Spinny!

  • What's the Raleigh frame in the background?

It's yours for free, if you want it....

  • Ouch! I'd take it, but I don't know any good welders locally.

Randomly, found out the other day my grandad was a top welder and fixed gear "slow riding" champion - he won awards for covering the shortest distance over the longest time. Thinking there's something in the blood...

Exactly so don't go on about this nonsense about me having to dodge cars down some hectic road, just because you think it is cool.

  • more toys eh? and you only just got a new road bike..............
how many bikes do you need ;-)

that track wekend is reasonably priced anyways, if you are keener than waiting nearly 6 months to shred it on the banking, get involved with Poole Wheelers.
Theres a guy called Gordon who's at polo and working with me now who trains with them wednesday on the sandbanks circuit, hes a driver too and goes to Calshot a fair bit. could hook you up.

what is that black beauty anyway?

all I can surmise is that you are feeling argumentative and trying to get a rise out of me--theres fuck all cool about filtering-its advanced cycling- you dont do it, you could do it if you practiced, and therefore get places quicker.
(I will concede that adrenalin is one of my weaknesses, as revealed many other places on here)

    The Sandbanks circuit? Whassat then?

It's a Dolan, which I got for cheap. Transferred all the kit from my Fort onto it. I only have 3 bikes Jason - Substantially less than you and Luke! :D

How's the new house. Got enough room for your bikes? :)

  • they leave Poole park, roll round to the ferry, back up to one of the side roads for a hill climb, back round the circuit (past the ferry on the one way road) and return to park.
theres generally one group of racers who want to cane it, and one slower group.
tbh Im not into it, they all turn up in cars, get the bikes out and most freely admit they dont ride for transport or everyday, so therefore it can be quite macho-ott imo.
on our rides its far more casual and there isnt that silent ---I can flog you---mentality you get with, (however friendly) racers in clubs.

  • ...but weighs a metric ton. Sturmey Archer hubs anyone?

I only leave for a few months and already there is another contender for heaviest-bike-in-town! Heavy is good, makes you fitter surely? Seriously though, nothing wrong with heavy frames. I competed in a hill climb a few weeks ago on my ridiculously heavy fixed and didn't come last in any races! :)

How much was the frame? looks nice. 66GI ain't nothing, You want to try 48:21! Super-spinny!
That track course looks good, I'd be up for it but I can't afford it, and wont be able to until after January :( £150 for accomodation, food, 8 hours coaching, and a road ride thrown in for good measure seems pretty good to me.

This sounds pretty cool, do you go along and chat to the fast riders while cruising past them up the hills? I can see it now... "Beautiful evening isn't it chaps!? See you at the top old boy ..." ;)

  • Afternoon all!
I'm bringing my girlfriend down to Bournemouth next weekend - to celebrate her 30th. She went to Uni there and has been keen to "re-visit".We're staying at some hotel on Argyll Road (?) called Urban Beach for the weekend.
We're hoping to rack the bikes up and head out for a ride whilst we're down there - would be great to hook up with you locals if you are about. Cheers in advance!

hi man. if that’s the 14-15 im away however, Urban Beach is alright.
you will be in the heart of Bosvegas, theres plenty flavour round there.likkle bits of interesting retro 2nd hand shops-caffs and stuff.worth visiting café bosca nova for lush late breakfasts.ride up the coast to Hengistbury head to explore and see the most expensive beach huts at Mudeford.
    have fun.

  • Yeah potter about on yer bikes along the coast towards sandbanks, she'll love it.

Yeah I thought the course looks good value for money - It's at end of March, not Jan.

66GI is wicked for getting around on. You can spin up quicker and it feels like you're going so much faster than before. Keeps you warm in the mornings too :)

  • Yeah yeah I know it's not til March, but I assume you have to pay before then?

That frame looks good, what's the catch? If only I had the cash to spare... Time to start saving up for the next bike I think.

  • Thanks for your input guys - the sandbanks ride sounds just the job - oh and thanks for the heads up on the area that is Bosvegas.... retro cafes and shops are her thing.
    Nice one.

No I wasn't trying to get a rise ... I just hate how you are always trying to get me to do stuff out of my comfort zone .... I just don't like filtering, it seems a bit dodge and my sense of self preservation sends a signal to my brain saying " I don't fancy squeezing through that gap because it looks dangerous, I would rather be safe and wait then be sorry." ... If you think that silly thing to do, I really couldn't give a rat's ass.

    66 GI isn't spinny .... I am still riding 58GI ...

Anyway nice bike ... if weather is nice I will have to make sure you get a spanking from the shorter, I will make sure I am sans hangover this week.

  • Lulworth/Blandford [st]fixed[/st] singlespeed?

You wanna try 66 on your shorter? You'll hate it.

  • I know I would ... I was under the impression you were running it ... anyway .. yeah I am up for some pain climbing lulworth on my Shorter ... think I could get up there at 74 GI, but that would mean actually bothering to like do some work on my bike ...

    Nice one.

in that case definitely take a stroll down Christchurch rd, it is charity shop heaven, also theres theres a couple of actual retro shops and a great vintage clothing one just before you reach Pokesdown station.
btw Ive never been 'local', anywhere.
@ Lucas. to me life is made better by coming out of our comfort zones.
social, emotional and physical risks are worth taking in a calculated adult manner, to be able to G.R.O.W in a kind of zen way, you dig?
