My Dad used to be into Speedway racing, never done it myself, I know there is a track down by baiter.

The route you said was pretty fast is cool to ride down, can fucking cane it no traffic in the evening down there usually and it pretty fast downhill with round flowing corners, can really keep the speed up.

Sometimes we ride to blandford and back, the dips past banbury rings kill you and then massive uphill before almost a good 5 minutes of fast downhill.

• Down that way occaisonally as my other halfs folks live in parkstone - usually ride over the purbecks down to lullworth on the geared bike or ss mtb.

not taken the fixie down there as not long had it and not sure i could cope with a long ride on it yet, or up/down some of the hills.

usually end up in le batau in lower parkstone for post ride drinkies..

• off to calshot in april and may for my first track riding experience...

I have some friends that ride there all the time and describe it as a wall of death..

• If I can get my act together and grab a chain for my bike and the weather isn't shit, anyone up for a ride next weekend?

• you will love the track there-they run 81"gears as standard because of the banking...dudes must run bigger ones but you can still shred it well with one of them..quite wierd the first few rounds, but get some coffee down ya because its pure concentration.

• ross then for the copper mercian--nice job.

• A good fast-flowing downhill in Bournemouth town centre starts from the top of the Poole Hill roundabout, gun it down Poole Hill, left-hand lane at the lights at the Triangle (if they're green, even better!)....

.....then the sweeping right-hander on Avenue Road, into the Square. If you carry on, turn right at the Town Hall roundabout and hack on up the nice big hill at Braidley Road (gets hte blood-flowing on 46:16!).

Used to be able to cane that on my mountain bike, now if I do that final hill I am as slow as molasses.

• Hey sweens, that's my route home on Monday and Thursday evenings! It's pretty nice when there is no traffic and the lights are green, though I do find the hill a bit of a struggle if I'm tired. But thats the challenge right?

I still really like heading out across the chain ferry to Swanage, Corfe Castle, and back. Have yet to try that fixed though, the climb up out of Swanage could be interesting, as well as that fucker of a hill down into Studland :).

I quite enjoy the Avon Causeway, a nice long flat road, can just cruise along at a decent pace. The A35 through the New Forest is pretty nice too, lots of flat sections followed by some good climbs.

Actually, I like pretty much everywhere around here. Don't think I've found a road/route I wouldn't ride again.

• Been on a really nice quiet route north of Stony Cross, heading north and round to Linwood e.t.c.

Dunno I would quite happily never ride through longham at 8.30am ever again or down Stapehill at night in the winter months.

• Next Weekend if the weather doesn't suck,

Beer on pie ride on the Sunday?

You were never there that early! :p
The road is OK, just a shame about the amount of traffic at that time in the morning.

Edit: I'm up for a ride on Sunday.

• Hey If anyone is hankerin to go track riding sat early doors at Calshot, have a look at this. The guy to email about it is graham@hurstbro.co.uk he is the chairman of the club, and an o.k guy. They are pretty friendly and are always trying to hook new members, http://www.poolewheelers.com/Track/Track.htm

• emmeff, are you a member of the Poole Wheelers then? I've been thinking it would be cool to go along with one of the local clubs, just not had the chance yet.

On that note, does anyone know much about the local clubs and which are good/friendly/not too serious etc. I don't want to turn up to a ride when it's their TT team trainig session or something!

• We need to organise a Calshot trip, definitely.

• I went to calshot for a climbing class last weekend. I had a look at the track while I was there, it looks like excellent fun. Very steep!

• We need to organise a Calshot trip, definitely.

I'd be up for that, Lucas mentioned something about some tracks requiring a minimum amount of gear inches so have to check that out. Wouldn't want to arrive and find I'm 2" short of a track.

• Just looked at the calshot activities centre site, no need to worry about bikes etc.:

Stage One - Taster sessions

Excellent fun for people wanting to try the track. All abilities are catered for, you just need to be able to ride a bike. You will progress at a pace suitable to the group, allowing you to learn the basics and get a real buzz from riding the track. We supply bikes, helmets and first rate coaching.

• I read some info somewhere that there's a general rule for a max GI. High 80's I think. I'm comfortable with 78" (48x16) but 84" (48x15) looks good for the track.

There's a forum trip being organised already:

• Arducius- Im not a member nah, just have them as contacts because I 'work' with kids inspiring them to ride bikes, he he. Have always been a kinda solo rider. To be honest I dont dig cycling clubs, dudes tend to be real macho and competitive--I see fixie riding as more freestyle-like most of these writers here. some do have sick bikes tho..
Best option for dudes here would be all pile up with that forum thing, better vibe.when I last did Calshot with work they had 10 of us shredding together. they run 81"hire bikes and limit max to that..end of essay, message me if you need more info, cheers

• p.s that place is some wierd spit of land, pain to get to by bike, easiest to rock up and hire their stuff first time

• pps take loads of clothes cos its arctic in that place...
