  • Ok then, how does this sound for everyone:
Get the 0850 train from Bournemouth to Lymington Pier, arriving at 0939. That gives us plenty of time (20 mins) to get on to the ferry.

I'm happy to book ferry tickets for everyone, if you pay me back at some point. It's £11.40 each for the ferry, booked on a specific outgoing trip and can get any ferry back, so we can sit in the sun with a beer at the end for a bit if we feel like it (I know I will!).

As for the train the best option is probably for the four of you to get a group ticket, it'll save money on the fair. I have a railcard so will get my own ticket, as group tickets are maximum of 4 people.

Is this good for everyone? I'll book ferry later on today if so.

  • ***Might ***cycle from Bournemouth to Lymington. It's only 17 miles (1 hour tops) vs 15 minutes to cycle to Bournemouth, 5 mins to get on train and 49(!) minutes on the train. Also there will be a 10 mph tailwind from Bournemouth to Lymington. Probably get the train back though.

    Who's with me?

Price for 4 return tickets on the train £14 (total).

  • Would be happy to get that train, railcard as well so group ting not any advantage.
Definately want to arrive on the Isle without having started the heart, so wont ride there, much better to have a 20 mile warm up then its an fairly decent ride round for the duration, not in any rush either so imbibing after sounds good.
Did check the trains and there isnt any work going on so thats good too.
Oh its all so good Im in pain. Yeah, Andy please book me a ferry ticket--sweet!
p.s anyone got a 14 tooth unthreaded cassette type cog going spare? just worked a way of turning Birdy into a s/s.

  • It's chepaer for 4 of us to get a group return than to use a railcard. £14 for 4 ppl return or £4something with railcard, so we might as well go for the group ticket.

I'm happy to book train as well. Open returns on both ferry and train means plenty of "imbibing" (as you put it) time :)

  • cool, how long does ferry take to cross, and how far to Yarmouth?

  • The ferry takes half an hour, and arrives into Yarmouth 0.2 miles from the nearest checkpoint. So real easy to get to the start and get ourselves registered etc.

Edit: Just booked train and ferry for us :)

  • Ok, taken me a while to get a photo sorted but here she is, the heaviest fixie in Bournemouth (see attachement).
So if you see me roling around town give me a shout and a wave or something!

I spotted someone with a dark (black maybe?) fixie on Charminster Road on weds, I think I might have been staring a bit at you, I was at the end of a long ride and was shattered.

P.S. Apologies for the MASSIVE photo.

  • 'b,mth mountain bike centre' its called, wallisdown road/kinson road.
unbelievable in there, whole shop is like a workshop, have been in there before but stood talking for a bit longer today, lss, he shows me a box of parts, nos, hubs, hope stuff from their early days, all sorts of shit. also asked for some cogs and he just turns round and picks up a half split cassette gives me a 14 and goes "that do ya?" two quid, turns out they both got about three bike builds on the go each, real goldmine and top mechanics too- go there.

  • No way! We (lucas, pifko and I) used to live just down the road from it. Never went in cos I thought it looked a bit shit. Have to pop in tomorrow for some tubes.

  • Last time Luke went in there for a Presta tube he got sold a Schrader. Hah!

  • Maybe I'll stick with Halfords...

  • Gents (and ladies if any - you never can tell with avatars).

I'm down here for most of this week (back to Londres on Friday prob) so if anyone fancies a ride/pint/oiling up on the beach then let me know. Would be good to meet the B'mouth people.

Gutted I didn't make the IOW, sounds like it was a damn good day.

  • hey, have an all day event at Boscombe (outside dolphin centre, bandstand) Thursday, (come and have a go on turbo?)
other than that pretty flexible on short rides, caffeine breaks,
see what the weather does tommorrow.

  • Easy!

    Charlie from sunny Southsea here.

Let me know if a Bournemouth ride is organised, will train it down with all the other usual suspects.

Would be a good day methinks.

Stop me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that the only Dolphin Centre around these parts was the one in Poole!?

So what is this in Boscombe, is that a Bournemouth Fixed thing?

  • yeah sorry about that, its a work thing and it is outside the Sovereign centre, shopping centres seem to just blend into one...........

I will be just doing the promote cycling to joe public thing there, have to do it several times a year,I set up a bike on a turbo, have a little distance in 2 mins challenge type thing, see what happens when you cycle to your heart with a heart rate monitor, that sort of thing.

you need to see that sick fixie website for any fixed activities there .

  • SPOTTED: emmeff just about to go into Sainsbury's in Poole, earlier today.

The turbo thing sounds like a good laugh, I'm up for it. What sort of time will you be up there?

@pigfarmer: Are you free all week? Weather looks alright this week so I'll be about on a few rides. PM me or post on here and we'll sort something out.

@Charlie: Southsea, thats a bit of a mission isnt it? We will have to organise something properly for once and hook up. Should be cool.
