• Hope you are not too battered, I know from my spill earlier this week that it takes a few days for some of the aches and pains to really manifest themselves.

• yeah, good to see you were ok and in relatively high spirits after seeing the state of your wheels, definitely make sure you get yourself checked out. Adrenaline can cover the pains/ache's you get from injury - just ask hops, she once finished her day couriering after breaking her arm at lunch time

• Glad you're okay Sam. After seeing the state of your wheels, I'm amazed you were still standing. OKR is really bad at the moment, and absolutely no excuse for cars to shoot across that junction.

Don't forget to add in the cost of your taxi journey...traffic was gridlocked right to the Dunton Road turn-off - it must have taken you ages!

• +1 to getting yourself checked out properly. If your knee was hurting immediately, it will be a lot worse in the morning or after the shock wears off. x

• man that's balls Sammy.. glad that you're safe'n'sound matey.. definitely take it easy over the weekend won'tcha.. sometimes the shock'll cushion it all.. hope to see you back on wheels soon man.. we should catch up round jambrose's sometime soon x

• am glad it sounds like you are okay sam.

you want to borrow a set of wheels in the meantime let me know.

liking the new avatar too.

ride safe

• Shit Sam, wank news - glad you're OK though mate

• GWS

nasty stuff all these accidents, I was involved in one yesterday morning. A woman pulled out (was let out by man in van) turning right across traffic not looking, scraped me by a whisker, but took out my poor mate who was riding behind me. his knee made a large mess of the wing.

• Beware the BMWs, they're driven by people who quite clearly should not be on the road. Glad you are ok though dude!

Fixed.

Almost identical to my accident, when will people learn they should not direct traffic.

• What happened in this accident?

• glad your ok matey. Fuck the bike for a moment, and your helmet obviously helped you a fair bit.
I've been mostly against helmets but this is one of a string of threads that has come up proving their real worth.
I might just get one.
That part of East London is pretty hectic any time of day.
Another guy taken out that wasn't so lucky. Take note guys, i know i am.

• Old Kent Road is a joke - why on earth where you riding on it?

Progress is slow at the best of times.

• that wheelchair guy is a danger to everyone.
he shouldn't be allowed to drive ever again.
i understand he needs to get around etc...
but if he can't control his car
maybe he should get someone to help.

oh yeah, i hope you're ok.
if you need a bike to ride until you get sorted by insurance co.
i could lend you a bike if you need one. what size?

• Thanks for all the kind words and kind offers (Jonny, Stallionlegs)...I've got enough bits knocking about to get some temporary wheels on the road - Viva La Beater!

I don't mean this unkindly Paul-Michel but are you a bit soft in the head like?

He was riding on the old kent road because his hovercraft had broken down and he was forced to use the bike.

• Once this woman in a wheelchair guilt tripped me into pushing her about a mile home. Bitch.

Wayne, don't get me wrong, I love you like a 'special cousin' - but that isn't that quite racist ?

Just because 'they' (your words not mine) can't afford "white man's fire" (your words not mine) does not mean that they cannot be perfectly good (although illegally employed) pilots of the UK's mainly Christian hovercraft fleet.

• Once this woman in a wheelchair guilt tripped me into pushing her about a mile home. Bitch.

I got done by some bastard in a wheelchair a few years back, the cunt made me his slave for the afternoon.

Although he did have boiled sweets and let me suck a pair of them, they were already wet when I got my gums on them but I suspect it was just that his pockets were wet.

I mean why not just go off the side street - they are well quiet and can get good speeds up.

did you break your arm as well? i broke my arm in april last year cos someone pulled out in front of me without looking (i think they were gossiping on the phone about ricki lake or something).they didn't hit me but when i swerved to avoid being hit, i came off. put out my hands in front of me to stop my head bouncing off the road and broke my arm. the person in the car just kept going, they didn't even notice. i was on the way to my exam, my arm was fucked but i got back on and rode to college to do my exam (arm hanging by my side). the tutor said i had to get it checked out and sent me to hospital. it was an absolute bugger not being able to do anything. i had to get my mates to skin up for me and i found it hard to even open my front door as it has two handles to turn at the same time. it was the first time i broke a bone, hopefully the last. i wish i could cave the drivers mums skull in with a claw hammer for bringing a stupid cunt like that into the world.

• ... when will people learn they should not direct traffic.

?

Letting someone into gridlocked traffic isn't what I'd call 'directing traffic'. It's just the normal give and take of driving here. If you've ever driven a car van or lorry, you'd know that London's roads really don't work at all without a bit of give and take. I know this driver didn't look properly, shouldn't really be driving (why are his insurers willing to insure him if this 'happens all the time'?!), but we have to get off our high horse about cars, they have a right to use the roads and get about. I would contend the people who would let you out into a queue are the sort of generally good drivers who give cyclists room and behave considerately to everyone. It's down to the guy who was let in to look beyond the car letting them in, to creep through not razz through the gap allowed, if you catch my drift.

We've got to stop getting all uppity about cars, they're not gonna go away.

• Ouch, sounds like a pretty lucky escape, Sammy Dodger. Definitely get yourself checked out properly and get it written up in full. Also, from personal experience, write down everything you can remember about the accident NOW, while it's fresh. You'd be amazed how much you''ll forget otherwise.

I'm sorry but I won't have that. I love the OKR, even the days of purest madness leave me awed rather than bowed.
