  • Super simple and lightweight quick release mud guards, as used by 31t®um. They are available in any colour you want as long as that colour is gloss white, they are also pretty flexible and whippy so don't expect anything super rigid. All you need to provide me with is the distance between the two rear stays just above the bridge and two gold coins and one of these engineering masterpieces can be yours.

  • Have you patented this design?

  • whats's good about these is you can just twist them on and off, no fixings, and chuck them in your bag when it's not raining

  • just been thinking about getting myself a mudguard...
how is it attached though? just wedged in there? won't it fall out/move?

  • looks a bit heavy. maybe you need to drill it? :p

  • Do 'em with custom graphics..

  • @moog, you cheeky fecker.
    as designed by murtle,
and i want a pound for everyone sold.

    murtle's flaps™

  • The plastic is cut slightly oversized so when you install it for the first time it deforms where the two rear stays are creating a tight fit. They bounce up and down a bit but side to side they are solid and there's no chance of it falling out. Only thing you need to be careful of is wiggling it about too much as it will make it a loose fit.

Murtles Flaps is perfect! They have to be called that. Really.

  • What about limited edition Murtle's Flaps X Wayne collab guards?
    £4
Maybe with a nice graphic 'Dirty Arse' text...?

    now that would be sweet.
    add a purple/green/black plaid and i'm in.

  • I think I remember attempting to bag one of Murtle's Flaps back at a rainy westies months ago. He mumbled something about prototypes / patent pending / muddy flaps and I heard nothing more. I assume he'd taken the design off to rapha or porsche.

  • Me like! Do they come in black? I'll measure DeathBike™ up when I get home... I was thinking about knocking one of these up myself only last week... My design was gonna use a flexy(ish) plastic then would go pretty much all the way down between wheel and the seat tube... Must knock a prototype up...

    Racist.

i'll spray yours black for you if you want Joe..... i've got a load of stuff to spray black at work anyways.

  • Can you still do that laser cutting, Rob? If so, need to talk to you at souths next time about somethin'... And (rattle)can it, bozo! ;p

  • Looks like your gonna have to round up your team of lawyers Murtle!

    Unrelated project... *Really! *;]
    Nice one, Rob... :]

  • The Flaps look good. Could do with a logo though. Something hip and street. How about 'Swagger'?

    gets coat

  • do you reckon there is a way to put a fin on it, so it flaps up and down as you go along?

  • You also need the distance from seat tube to rear bridge. On a small frame this will be alot smaller meaning the mudgard will end up at a step angle and may hit the tyre on a very large frame. Geometry will also effect this.

You may only need a few sizes in this respect but a I doubt one size will fit all.

  • nope, you make your own grooves for it to fit, just by inserting in the stays and twisting when it is sitting right

  • I think I'll wait for the inevitable Carhartt / Murtle Flaps collaboration

I get you I misunderstood the fitting.

And some way of it rubbing the back wheel to get that authentic Murtle *Grumble Grumble *noise as you ride?
