can anyone recommend a good pub with somewhere to leave the bikes?
-
• #81
dont worry stratford upon avon is full of pubs, lots of nice old ones. Its hard to find a bad one.
If dont think will have any problems with bike theft, locking them to each other should be plenty sufficent.

I seem to remember quite a few pubs with beer gardens, especially by the river. Might be too cold to sit outside supping ale but who knows, fingers crossed and Mama Natura might shine some warm afternoon sun around the vicinity. It's a nice feeling when you don't even have to think about locking bikes up - freedom!

There's the Dirty Duck opposite the Theatre, they allow you to take your beers across the road to sit in the gardens, river side.
If not, we have Cox's Yard - right on the riverside, just by the bridge that takes you over the river into Bridgetown.
Or - Pen and Parchment - where the open top bus leaves from. It has a great outside area where bikers often leave their wheels, so very safe.
Finally, there's the Windmill. Great Beer, but limited Garden space/lock ups.
Have no fear, I'll find Beer..... (lived there when I moved up here from London)If we need to, we'll leave the bikes at my girlfriends' parents gaff, and we can just head of for refreshment. They live central Stratford!

hey!
does anyone know the area in between henley in arden and stratford? i don't really want to use my co-worker's bicycle sat-nav. nor do i want to carry a map. i'm happy following my nose/signs as long as everyone else is, but i'd like to stay off the a34. if that's no good, i guess i'll plan a map.

I do, but I won't be out there riding with you. Head out on the A4189 for Claverdon, then take a right at the x-roads, and follow that road to the t-junc oppo a big house - go right again there, and follow this road - there's a short steep descent into Langley, then take a left at the end of the village and you can find your way to Stratford via Snitterfield from there.
Alternative is to head through Wooton Wawen & Aston Cantlow to Billesley - cross the A46 carefully and follow the road toward the signed pub (The Blue Boar I think?) but do a left and follow that road. When you reach the main(ish) road there you can follow that into Stratford, or go across the staggered junction south to Welford on Avon and arrive at Stratford the other way - it's a bit more scenic and slightly quieter roads - you could even pick up the Stratford Greenway near Welford, that's flat and fast into town.
Enjoy. :)

lol directions. I don't know how people can understand directions. I suppose it's the same as some people don't understand understand simple algebra, or people who can't cook rice. It's simple, but my brain just doesn't understand it. You tell me to go 100m then turn right at the roundabout, then turn right at the crossroads 1km ahead, i will end up on the other side of the world. I'm fucking serious.

Fookinell! I've named places for you - follow the road signs ;):P
If it's a sunny day, just keep the sun and your watches in check so you're heading south and slightly east. That's how I learned the roads around there. If it's cloudy / rainy... sod the ride and find a nice pub to drink in - you're not training for owt are you?

good thing you don't have a job where navigational skills are useful

I was saying to John in OYB earlier on... Or he was saying to me.... I know where A is, I know where B is, and I know how to get from A to B. But if you ask me for directions, I'm fucked if I'm gonna be able to tell you.

I'm really pissed off but I'm not gonna be able to make it on sunday. I've found the place of my dreams in Brighton and, in order to make sure me and my bro get it, am going to be down south all weekend signing contracts and talking to landlords.
sorry! -
• #93
good luck teew.
Brighton rocks... -

I'll probably come on this ride and I know the roads out to Stratford. It's pretty easy to stay off the main roads and use the lanes. Could be a nice day out if the weathers good.
See you Sunday.

Could be on for this, have kept an eye on the threads but not followed anything up. Just to check, I work in Birmingham but am not totally familiar with anything outside the centre, is Moseley Square at corner of Salisbury & Alcester Rd? Couldn't find it on maps. Would be coming down from New St if I make it.
-
• #96
Just ride towards Moseley from town and it's next to the Bull's Head pub on the left, you can't miss it.
-
• #97
The weather's not looking too great guys..... Could piss it down at any point.
What's your thoughts? -
• #98
Im about to take a ride into town... see what the the wind is saying? rain don't bother me but wind I fucking hate.

I hear that...

Weather is pissing it down right now out Knowle way.
I suggest this ride is rescheduled. 30 miles in wet and cold is not much fun.
My only concern is are the train operator gonna kick up a stink about us all taking our bikes on the train at once?
