I’ve always wondered what qualities it takes to be remembered as a real gentleman / great guy..?
I think I’ll be remembered (or forgotten) as being particularly grumpy and outspoken. Sigh

Not sure if there is a clear description for it, but in my (short) life I'll always include Pablito as one of them. Some of his interviews (past and more recent) clearly show how he was.

"Blue" Gene Tyranny died yesterday, man what a genius. This is one of my favourite tracks ever. He also played on Private Parts by Robert Ashley, another all-time favourite.

Must have read all his novels at least twice. Amazing writer, he took you into another world where nothing could be trusted. Smiley v Karla was epic.

Loved his cold war stuff. After the wall came down and his political views became more openly expressed in the books, I thought the quality gradually tailed off (his politics seemed pretty sound, for what it's worth, I just feel he was a lot better at weary cynicism than righteous anger). The final Smiley book, which seemed to have been written just to tie up loose ends, was pretty pointless.
